  • Messed up - Topped M26 with M21

Ok, I admit when I mess up and I did last night....not sure what I was thinking! I am coming off being sick, so I'll blame that! I did D151 then M26 then M21.

My question is this: Is the sealant still effective? If not, should I clay bar it and start over with the protectants? I don't want to ruin anything that might still be effective. If I should just top the M21 with a couple of think coats of wax, I'll do that...just want to take the most efficient route at this point.

    Any info is much appreciated!

Well... the car may explode shortly, but other than that you'll be fine....

Just wash and spray wax next week like usual, and sometime along the way you can re-detail it if you like.

Has the paint started to peel yet? That will happen just before the explosion!

      You will be fine!

I think if you put 21 & 26 in a blender for about 20 seconds you could save a step and only have to apply the mix one time.

EDIT: I love the blender idea...now why didn't I think of that!! hahaha

          Thanks for the humor!

How badly did you mess up? In other words, how terrible does the car look? If the car looks great in your eyes, then something tells us you didn't really mess up at all, you just didn't apply these two products in the sequence that most people comment about on various forums. That doesn't make it right or wrong.

As far as I am concerned, having looked at this "topping" issue for some time now, I'm convinced it makes no difference what so ever, which product you apply first and then second. The solvents in all the LSP's I have looked at, are more than capable of dissolving the 20 odd micron thick layer left by whatever product you used first and so, in the end, you end up with a mixed, not layered, product left on your paint. If that product looks good to YOU, and it lasts as long as you hope for, then all is well.

              Regards

You hit the nail on the head. It looks fine, it's just not in the order I usually do them in and didn't know if one canceled the other out.

If only Meguiar's makes a pure sealant without any polishes or cleaners in them, so people could top carnauba with sealant., Maybe it's not possible.

I just did the same thing.. I thought that the finish looked a bit like oil on water with faint 'oil like marring' I was tired so gave it a break for 24 hrs. The next day it looked very much better with few oily looking areas. I gave it a dust removing gentle wash and it looked great after that so I gave it a NXT wax and it came up Super!.
