  • Do i need a UV protection after PlastX?

Well, im new to the forums and was told i need to post this question here instead of the "new to discussion forums?". Well my questions is do i need to apply a UV protection wax after plastx on my headlights? I have sanded them and so far the PlastX has worked well! I just want it to last, and i have heard applying a UV wax will help it stay clear longer. Will the NXT 2.0 do the trick? How often would i have to apply it?

    Thanks guys!

Certainly wont hurt. Not much else you can do.

Sorry that I don't have an answer but I just wax over my headlights when I wax my car. As was mentioned, it surely couldn't hurt.

I think plastX adds some protection. But more could never hurt. Go for it.

I have searched cyber space for weeks looking for a UV Inhibitor/Sealant and this is what I have found. First of all, if you’re going to simply restore your headlights without using any UV protection you’ll only get about 3-4 months out of them until you have to redo them all over again. The reason they got to where they are today is because the outdoor elements along with the heat coming from the bulb itself has burned away any UV protection that was on your lens’. So, in order to have your headlights last as long (or longer) than they did when they were first new is to replace the UV inhibitor/sealant back on your lens’.

If you’re doing this for yourself than there is a kit which has the UV/Sealant in their package which can be found at myheadlight.com (no, I do not sell this stuff nor am I affiliated with this company in any way). This package from what I understand can also be bought at Walmart. If you’re doing this as a business that there are other places that you can get additional products.

Thanks guys. I went ahead and added a thin layer of NXT 2.0. By the way, i waited about 30secs after i applied it to wife off, is that enough to time for it to dry?

No, not for a wax. More like 10-15 minutes.

Of course. Any sealant or wax can safely be applied to plastic lenses.
They are non-porous and not textured (nor should be)

Yeah, just apply gently like anything else.

Apply thin, let sit till it hazes and dries, then wipe off.

This may sound odd, but I actually don't know if I want to apply a UV protection layer (aside from wax) to my headlights.

It's kind of fun when the headlights get dirty and watching them "magically" look crystal clear again after I use PlastX!

xantonin - Yes, it is indeed fun. But if i do it to a paying customer i dont want the headlights yellowing within a month. I would like them to be satisfied for awhile lol..

The first lights i did about three years ago are still going strong without added UV protection and wax.
