  • 4-inch Foam Applicator Pads

I have always used generic waxes available everywhere, and have never been into waxing my vehicles much, but I have an almost new car, and want to take the time to take care of it, and maybe comb my hair in it. Where do the 4-inch Foam Applicator Pads (meguiarsdirect.com/detail/MEG+X3070) come into this? The description doesn’t say anything about using them with wax, yet my generic waxes I’ve always used come with foam applicator pads like these. I will be doing all applications by hand.

Hi Gary, and welcome to MOL. We altered your post just to remove the clickable link as we don't allow them during a member's initial 30 posts. Yes, even to our own online store - we have to do this equally you know!

As to your question, the X3070 foam applicators are the recommend way to apply waxes and pure polishes, as well as liquid paint cleaners, when working by hand. This is because they are very gentle to the paint and offer almost no cutting ability on their own. Many people will convert them to use as a tire dressing applicator once they've reached a point where you may no longer want to use one for wax application, whether it's just heavily stained, maybe has a small tear in it, etc.

Thank you for the excellent answer Michael. It answers all my questions on the foam pads. As for the links, it took a while just to find the forum rules, and the rule on posting links, so I posted this before I found the rules. Posting links and photos sure is an easy way to paint a picture, and I do that a lot. I didn’t see a rule about posting photos tho.
