  • UC and dust from compound?

I detailed a car today and used my Meguiar's DA for the first time. I was using UC, W8207 pad and 5 speed. I primed my pad with Final Inspection and continued to use the X method of product application. I cleaned my pad on the fly after every second application (also this may be where I am failing). I noticed a lot of white dust and then blue dust after I had been buffing a while. The car is a blue 1999 Toyota Corolla. Did I not clean my pad enough or not apply enough product? The car was covered in dust by the end and I ended up having to wash it again!

    This is the car.

You may have been using too much product. Ultimate Compound and other Meguiar's products that utilize SMAT (super micro abrasive technology) can be used rather sparingly compared to most other paint cleaners & compounds. Once the pad is fully primed with UC you can usually get away with as little as half the amount of product you'd normally use.

As for blue dust..... this was single stage paint it sounds like? May well be that as you pulled color it simply mixed with the excess product, dried on the edge of the pad, and dusted off. Of course that dust would then be blue.
