detailing help...idk what went wrong?

    detailing help...idk what went wrong?

    hey. Posted 2 pics of my car that I used cleaner wax on over the weekend. When i got sunny yesterday i looked for spider webbing! ITS EVERYWHERE! I waxed by hand....is that bad? Should i get some other products? Like an M product? I always see Msomething?? Ex: M80. What are these types products? And how much is an okay polisher?

    Where did you post your pics?
    I've used cleaner wax before, by hand as well, and it works very well. How did you apply it? Did you make sure the surface was clean and dry ? What type of applicator pad did you use? How did you wipe off the product? You need to make sure you washed and dried your car really well before applying the wax, if the surface doesn't feel smooth, then you may need to clay, and then apply the cleaner wax. Are you sure the cobwebbing was not there before already?
    Also make sure to use either the foam pads, or the even coat applicator pads, I prefer the even coat for waxes, let dry a couple of minutes, then wipe off with a nice polishing cloth like supreme shine MF towel, or ultimate wipe. Make sure to apply nice thin coat of wax, and then follow up with some pure wax, like GC or NXT at least 12-24 hours after your first coat, that works great!
    The M# products they usually refer, are usually products from the professional line, you can find in the first page of the Detailing 101 forum a "sticky" with all the acronyms commonly used in the forum, as well as the full list of products, and their abbreviations or code numbers. The cleaner wax is a good product, and you get even better results if you follow up with a pure wax afterwards.

      Just outta curiosity, JLMex, you mentioned using foam or even coat applicator pads. Would microfiber pads work any better or worse then the ones you mentioned?

        These are the ones I'm talking about, they are made of microfiber actually. Work great for waxing IMO, better than foam pads, and softer. Although foam pads like this:

        are very good for compounds like SwirlX, UC, I think.

          Really need a lot more info to tell what is going on.

          How old is the car? What kind, color, etc? How have you been taking care of it in the past? And as mentioned, how was everything applied, any other step you did?

          If the car has been out in the elements, car washed, etc, and this is your first detail, many folks dont realize how much the dirt on the car covers up. Now you used a mild cleaning product, and may have uncovered things.

          Telling us some more, or helping us find your pics ( or a mod needs to approve them still) will help a lot. I am sure there is a solution, just a matter of finding the cause as well so it doesnt happen again.

            Sorry for assuming but I'm quite sure those swirl marks were NOT caused over the weekend detail.

            And waxing by hand is not bad at all, I do it quite often since many parts on my car are impossible to wax with a polisher.

            If you want to remove swirls, the recommended products are " SwirlX " or "Ultimate Compound" .. they should get the job done.

            For a decent polisher you're looking at around 100-200 USD

              Its a 2008. A Sunlight copper (like an orange, Factory paint). It was clayed 5 months ago. The paint felt good... The pics are under "What do u think" in detailing 101. It was washed twice, dried, sat in the garage for an hour. Duested off and then i applied cleaner wax/ I do alot of hand washed so they were prob there b4 (the webbs), but i thought the cleaner wax would remove them?

                Cleaner Wax is very mild. It will remove oxidation, staining, and perhaps (depending on the paint system) very light swirls; but it's not designed to function as a cleaner/polish. If you want to remove swirls, you will need to step up to SwirlX and Ultimate Compound. Always remember to do a TEST SPOT first. I prefer using foam applicators for both polishes and waxes. Also check out the various threads in the "Working by Hand" forum.
                Swirls hide in the black molecular depths, only waiting for the right time to emerge and destroy your sanity.

                  Yeah, the cleaner/wax is very mild. Like Al said, just going ot have to move up to a stronger product or two for your next detail. And do a test spot/panel first, to make sure you are removing them, before you do the whole car.

                    While your next step is going to be to remove the swirls we need to take care of another issue first, your wash process.

                    Can you give us a detailed explanation of your wash process because it sounds like that is where the swirls are coming from.

                    We wouldn't want you to spend a lot of time removing the swirls only to go wash your car a week later and get all the swirls back.

                    Improper wash technique can be deadly (in terms of swirls haha)!

                    I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.
                    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                    Remove swirls my friends.

                      SURE - I have been using....for the last year and 1/2 one bucket method wit Zip Wash and a wash mitt. The 2 sided one with the scrubber on one side. Im switching to ONR for winter clean up....i will be using a micro F sponge.....how should i was in the summer? two bucket but with what kinda sponge/pad/mitt??? thanks!
