  • How would you wash and wax my Mustang?

    Hey Guys,

I am no professional just a regular guy so I dont have a ton of money and will be working by hand. (No machine buffer thing)

What I plan to do is....

1.) Wash it... least invasive method
    2.) Clay it
    3.) Swirl X it
    4.) Wax it

    Couple questions

1.) So I already have scratches on my rims from hitting a curb earlier today and was pretty pissed all day. This is my first manual car but I was just in a rush and took a turn to fast to tight... does Scratch X 2.0 work on Chrome. Would it at least help. They are not deep but just making me mad...

2.) I dont know if you can tell but there are bolts and crevices that are going to be really hard so I was thinking about using Turtle Wax Ice. No white residue. Is there something for waxing you would recommend?

    Thanks Guys

Your plan looks good, remember two coats of wax.

    1) Not so much. Can you get a better pic of the wheels and the damage? And for sure what the material is, any coating?

    2) Yeah, those could be a pain. You could certainly use Nxt 2.0 everywhere, and just ICE close around the bolts.

Try not to get compound or wax in all of those rivets, it will be a pain to remove it all.

        First off, welcome to MOL.

Second, that's a great looking Mustang you've got!

Your process sounds good, but if the SwirlX doesn't fully remove your swirls and other light defects, step up to Ultimate Compound. Either one should be used with a foam wax applicator pad and not terry cloth. You'll be working it with some elbow grease and terry cloth, when used this way, can easily haze the paint as it's actually a pretty aggressive applicator. Just work small areas at a time, no more than maybe a foot square, and wipe it off while still wet.

If you've curbed a wheel, even lightly, ScratchX most likely won't do a darn thing for them. You can certainly try it, but don't expect much since chrome is extremely hard. Curbing a wheel generally cuts pretty deeply into the finish, but if you just brushed it ever so lightly you can try our Hot Rims Chrome Polish. But if there's anything you can feel with your fingernail, you won't be able to do a darn thing, sorry. If it's any consolation, we've all been there, done that. And nobody even got a T-Shirt for the effort.

Others have commented on getting compound, polish or wax in and around the bolt heads on the body kit. Yes, that can be a pain to remove, but a little shot of Quik Detailer (or any other, similar mist and wipe product) and a soft toothbrush or dedicated detailing brush will clean it up pretty quickly. If you're really concerned about a wax drying in there and leaving white residue, try Meguiar's M26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax. It's our premium carnauba blend from our Mirror Glaze Pro line - it dries clear and leaves a gorgeous finish on a well prepped surface. We're willing to bet that it will look fantastic on that deep blue color.

First off thanks for liking the Stang!! Woo I love it!

Im already mad because I have had it for a little more than a week and ive got brake dust screaming at me like its been there for 10 years.

Im definitely gonna try the swirl x first because just the word compound has me worried sick! Ive seen the videos and it looks like it does well im just hoping its not that bad.

Believe it or not this is a daily driver so I have read a few posts and seen that with a daily driver it wont be show car style everyday but I do want it to be as clean and scratch free as possible.

And Ive also never heard of that wax your talking about but I will look in to it. Ever since I tried your Claybar I have been hooked on Meguiars

Thanks guys keep any comments coming

#26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax can usually be found at most auto parts stores. The liquid version, that is. If you prefer paste, try NAPA.
