  • UQW, then add QW to hood?

I am switching to UQW, but tiny scratches in the hottest part of the hood on my 88 Civic concern me and I don't want to mess with the cc.

Have been using QW on top of M07/NXT/M26. Because it has carnuba, and:

"Quik Wax also helps to fill in and hide unsightly swirls and scratches."
    (Product Review)

After UQW, not sure if it is worth trying to use QW on just the center of the hood as a way of adding a filler or if I an getting hung up on theory.

On the hood only: UQW(durability), topped with QW(filler)?

      Just polish out the defect?

Any wax will act as a filler.

You can top UQW if you like, but that would seem to cover up some of its properties, like the hydrophobic polymers.

I have a camera and I need to figure out how to use it so I can show you what I am talking about:

Right over just the engine, the hood has a very dense coverage of very fine, very small scratches (this size: "/") that don't look like any cc failure pix I have seen here.

I have used ScratchX on a test area gradually increasing the pressure until I was creating scratches. Seemed to have no affect on the problem. Nor has Megs Yellow wax, M-07, Cleaner Wax.

Not sure what product to use so I don't go through the clear...in case it has been thinned by the heat from the engine.

But I am open to suggestions.

            Thanks

Here are a couple pictures of the hood on my '98 Civic. If this is what yours looks like.... they are cracks caused by excessive heat and not scratches. I have been told that it is a flaw in the Civics that don't have a thermal covering on the bottom of the hood -- the manifold is too close to the painted surfaces. Hope this helps.

Yep. Very similar. Mine are are closer together and many more of them. Also, my '88 is about this shade and color: and more greyish. Maybe that's why they are only noticable when the sun hits it the right way. . Not sure what to do next.

Thanks for the pictures, really helped.

No problem. I have been told that a repaint is the only fix for the hood, but that's not really an option for me. This is my commuter car that I plan on driving until something falls off that I can't put back on...
