  • Another Newbie question

    Ok after drying the car, I want to clean, polish and wax my car's finish.

    For Paint Cleaning should I use Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner , ScratchX, or ColorX?

    Thanks -BrutalDawg

      Hi BrutalDawg,

      Which paint cleaner you should use depends on the condition of your car's paint. If your finish has a lot of swirls and scratches, then go with ScratchX.

      If your car's finish is in good condition but has some staining, or light oxidation then go with the ColorX or the ScratchX.

      If your car's finish is new, or like new but you want to insure that the finish is clean before polishing and waxing, then go with the Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner.

      In order of aggressiveness, starting with the least aggressive,
      • * Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner
        * ColorX
        * ScratchX
      All of these can be applied by hand and the Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner and the ColorX can be machine applied using either a dual action polisher or an orbital buffer. ScratchX is formulated for hand application.

      I would also like to point out that while each of these products offers a different level of cleaning ability, the most aggressive of these three, the ScratchX, is completely non-abrasive and can be used on any paint finish in any condition with excellent results.

      Also, if your car is a daily driver and parked outside at least some portion of the day, you should also inspect the finish for bonded contaminants, (after washing), with the palm of your clean hand . If you feel little bumps on the finish that washing didn't remove, then you should clay your cars finish, (after first washing it), using a clay bar like the one found in Meguiar's Quik Clay System. After you have washed and then clayed your car's finish, you can then move on to the paint cleaning step with a paint cleaner.

      Here are the steps in the order they should be followed.
      • * Wash using a premium quality, non-detergent car wash
        * Clay the finish to remove above surface contaminants
        * Clean paint to remove below surface defects with a paint cleaner
        * Polish using a pure polish like Deep Crystal Polish - (an optional step recommended for dark colors or black finishes)
        * Protect with two thin coats of you favorite wax or paint sealant
      Hope this helps...

            Interesting?

            I've never seen where a person's picture is substituted for another image that says, Thanks for stealing our bandwidth.

            I understand the problem however and as technology evolves, we'll probably see this again from time to time.

            It looks like where you're hosting your photos doesn't like you to link to them from other websites. For this reason, we offer each of our members space for pictures in their own gallery using PhotoPost.

            Here's a link that explains why the Attach File option won't work on Meguiar's Online, and how to properly crop, resize and upload your photos into your own gallery.

            Remember, 700 pixels wide is the maximum width for any photo you want to upload as good etiquette.

              How did you fix that?

              (I should have snagged one of those photos so my above post would make sense)

                Very nice looking! Great job on that car.

                I love the car too by the way. Pretty clean look, rather rare for Civics now. I also see the VTEC badge, that's always a plus!
