  • A Couple Things I've Come to Realize

After having been Car Crazy for over a year now, I've come to realize:

    1. Dirty or neglected cars are bad, but they aren't that bad because without them, I wouldn't be detailing in the first place. And I enjoy detailing.

    2. When dealing with paint, the least aggressive method is the smartest method.

    3. Many waxes aren't "better" than others, they are a matter of personal preference.

    4. Part of car care isn't just about how good your car looks. You have to analyze what you use your car for and make realistic goals. You can't expect your daily driver to look like a show car.

    5. Just because it's more expensive, doesn't mean it's better.

    6. DON'T DROP IT!!!!

    7. If you do, throw it away!

    8. Grit Guards are the best thing since sliced bread.

    9. Better to wait and do a thorough wash than to rush it and swirl up the car.

    10. Mike is the best name on the face of the planet.

+1 on #5. Chemical Guys sells a wax that cost $300. Come on! Really?!?!

Sorry, I'll stick with Meg's and buy the whole product line for that much!

Hey hey come on now. I think some people here like Chemical Guys' products Perhaps not their waxes though.

But yeah, the cheapest wax in my collection is M16. My average cost of a tin of M16 was $4, and the reflectivity rivals that of my Chemical Guys' E-Zyme. But there are other aspects of expensive waxes that beat the cheaper over the counter waxes.

My cars are sort of like my shirts, and the wax on them is like a tie. It's good to have varieties. Meguiar's wax is like the J-Crew tie. It can be worn casually or otherwise; it lacks controversy and rarely offends anybody.

HC, you make some good points. Especially about the price of some waxes.
