  • Re-paint corrections and waxing

I recently had the misfortune of needing some bodywork and BC/CC to my new black trucks bedside. There are a fair amount of fine rotary swirls that I'd just as soon correct myself, and am currently honing my DA skills on an older car. The paint was sprayed about 6 weeks ago, and I was thinking of waiting another 6 weeks or so before waxing just to be on the safe side.

My question about new re-paint corrections is- would it be better to-
1)correct the rotary swirls now and coming back later to wax, or
    2) wait until I can safely do it all from correct to protect in one session?

    1. Paint can get harder over time, so you may want to try tackling them now. As long as you arent waxing, you can clay, clean and polish.

    2. Whichever.

What products do you have with you?

Murr- well, I'm stocked pretty well now.
Just got my 110 DA last week. 9207s, 8207s and a 7207; 205 and SwirlX; DC polish and wax; UQW and UQD and clay and Eagle wash, loads of MFs and some masking tape. Yea, a bit of a spending spree, but I like to be prepared! Seriously though, I knew that getting into a black truck and wanting to keep it in as good a shape as I can would require mechanical, chemical and intellectual assistance- there are ALOT of square feet of metallic black paint there to care for! No more car washes for me!

How to Wash Your Car Show Car Style

You can try out the #205 or SwirlX on it with the polishing pad.

Rememebr UQD isnt for fresh paint either.

Oh yea, I did previously stumble on to the two bucket method with grit guards vid. Thanks for the UQD tip. Thus far, the new paint has only been washed and dried.
The only thing I do additionally, which I'm not sure is a without risk thing, is to blast off the surface dirt at the car wash from everywhere the day before bucket washing. Reasoning being that some will come off with higher water pressure than I can do in the drive way. Less grit to smear around. But maybe it pounds it into the surface too like sand blasting? Sure hope there are no particulates in their spray also...

Most coin-op places have two powers on the trigger, and using the regular should be good. Dont want to be too rough on it.

Well Murr1525, I figured I'd give you an update. I tackled the bedside as you suggsted 205/finishing and things turned out fine, after 2 complete sesions of usually 6 passes per section. The one last problem area I did using ScratchX instead. It seemed more forgiving, and maybe a bit more effective on the swirls.....or was that some polish/oils in the SwirlX (that the 205 doesn't have) that covers up light swirls???
Followed up with DC2- seemed really wax-like when removed- difficult buff. Maybe applied too thickly?

End result has just the faintest rare swirling now. Will be interesting to see if and to what degree they pop back up while waiting to DA and wax it all next month.
              Thanks for the input.
Oh yea, I'm lovin this 110. Tools that rock.
