  • 2 Newbie Questions (wax residue / interior window film)

    1) I have some dry wax residue in some nooks and crannies. I was thinking about using 50/50 alcohol/water combo to clean it off. Is this OK or are there superior alternatives? Some of the cracks are really small/tough to get into - is a soft toothbrush soft enough for paint?

    2) For some reason the interior of the windows of the car are getting a nasty greasy film over them. Cleaning with window cleaner (e.g. nxt - which otherwise is a fantastic glass cleaner) just seems to move the nasty film around. Wiping with a clean MF seems to do the best job - but the film comes back after a month or so. Any ideas on how to more permanently get rid of these?

    1. I would use some APC prob 10:1 or 8:1 and a brush of your choice and then ofcourse wash the left over APC with soap.

2.I would wipe them with some 50/50 Alcohol and water then after that clean them with the window cleaner of your choice with a microfiber that is made for windows and turn it over to dry side and buff dry.

What kind of interior protectant are you using? Some protectants can cause you to get a film on your windows. I regularly use Supreme Shine, Natural Shine, and sometimes M40 - they don't create film and cleaning windows is a breeze.

How often are you cleaning your interior windows? Are you only cleaning them once a month? I try to clean mine every week. If you keep up on it, then you won't have so much trouble cleaning your windows and keeping them clean.

I think the dressings uses can also affect the amount of film.

I liked the Nxt Tech Protect ant, but always had some film when newly applied. The new Supreme Shine seems to put up much less film.

I clean my windows more then once a month. I get this film on the inside also. It could be, if your car is new the outgassing of the interior products. I find after a couple of months it goes away.

Thanks guys - any more thoughts on the dried wax residue in the nooks and crannies? Is an APC going to be more effective or safe than using alcohol/water? Is a soft toothbrush soft enough?

What you want to do is get the bristles into the crannies.... not drag the brush along the surface. As far as a liquid, if one is needed, soap ywater would be what to try first. The others will remove wax in the area. But yeah, can go to APC, 50:50, Dawn, etc if needed.

Might even find a narrow paint brush to be better.
