  • Swirl-X question

Hi chaps, had a search and found a few things but not up to speed with this forum yet so sorry if it's been covered a million times.

I want to get the swirls off my Honda so have got myself some Swirl-X which will be slapped on via the G220 and Megs foam pad. Now assuming it works (I'm lead to believe spread it on speed 2 and work in on speed 4) and there is some paint left once I've finished, should I then be looking at a polish (I have various) or do I go to a sealant or wax from the SX?

That's about it for my first (kinda first) post, so thanks in advance guys

    Re: Swirl-X question

Use Ulitmate Compound followed by Swirl-X and then put a coat of your favorite wax. I normally use M105 M205 then wax but this past weekend I took a class by Mike Phillips @ Auto Geek and we used those products listed above with the meg pads and it worked really good.

      Re: Swirl-X question

It is quite common for Honda's to have fairly soft paint, so SwirlX alone may get the job done for you. Of course, not all Hondas have the exact same paint so until you actually start working on it you won't know for sure.

Don't be afraid to run that machine at speed 5 either, although if the paint does turn out to be very soft you may even want to go slower than 4. Experiment a bit at first, do some test spots and evaluate your result before doing the entire vehicle. There is nothing more frustrating than just jumping in and doing "something" only to find that, after several hours of work, it wasn't the right "something".

Great, thanks guys. I wasn't too sure where Swirl-X fell in to line, if you know what I mean. So it's a goer by itself then to wax or it is used after a polish. Ok great, got it

Got a milano red Honda to do too, very bad oxidisation so will be asking questions on that soon too Ain't you glad I signed up

Thanks again guys and when I do mine with Swirl-X I'll post some pics

          Re: Swirl-X question

SwirlX will be the starting place for both cars.

After the SwirlX, you can go straight to waxing.

On the Honda, assuming it is single stage paint, you may also want to use a pure polish after the SwirlX, then wax.

Do test spots of course. Dont do the whole car, and find something wasnt working.

              Re: Swirl-X question

Swirl-X is a cleaner, possibly with some polish in it (I'm not positive about the polish part). If the paint is single stage, a polish is usually worth it IMO.

                Re: Swirl-X question

Yes, there are polishing oils in SwirlX. But not quite the same as #80, or a pure polish.

                  Re: Swirl-X question

Ah ok, so just to clear it up when it comes to the machine stage, and if required, is it Swirl-X first and the polish second. For example I have some #83 and a sample of #205 would that go on after the Swirl-X?

                    Re: Swirl-X question

No, the above question was refering to polishing oils in a pure polish, like Deep Crystal Polish, #5, #7, #81. #80 also has a lot of polishing oils in it. As FYI, the products you mentioned above are cleaner/polishes, that is they have some cleaning ability and some polishing oils, like SwirlX.

Basically saying that you can add more polishing oils to the surface by using a pure polish after SwirlX. That sort of thing can be good for single stage paints, which the Honda may be.

As far as your process, #205 is milder that SwirlX, but not drastically. What you should do is wash, clay, and then do a test spot/panel (like a fender) with the machine and SwirlX. Then get it out in the light so you can really see it, and inspect it.

If you find something isnt right, try and take pics, come back to ask. Dont keep going if something isnt right.
