  • Air Powered DA ?

I see DA sanders (air) and i wonder if these would be a decent alternative to the fairly expensive porter cable.

Air powered D/A's have orbit sizes that are all over the board since they are used for many tasks? For example, a small 3/32" orbit all the way to a large 1/2" orbit. In addition, the speed can be all over as well.

Depending on what you are trying to do...that will dictate what orbit size is best for the job. The larger the orbit size, the more "cutting" action you will have. The smaller the orbit size, the less "cutting" action you will have.

Most electric D/A's used for polishing and waxing have a 5/16" orbit including our DA Polisher.

If you wish to use an air powered D/A and duplicate the electric one, then just make sure and get one that is a 5/16" orbit and then be careful to control the speed so it is not much over 6000-6500 for paint polishing / waxing applications and you should be fine.

BTW - Have you checked out our DA Polisher ?

Also you will want to make sure that whatever compressor you have has the capacity to supply enough air to run the DA during continuous use.
