One aspect of Rain-X bothers me...

Big rain drops easily slide right up and over your windshield, but sometimes big rain drops hit your windshield and burst into thousands of little drops. Those little drops don't always catch enough wind and require you to hit the wipers. Some of this could also be dependent on the rake of your windshield, but that is just a guess. Other than that, no problems.

Same here. The blade chatter was terrible.

Exactly! I will not use it for that very reason.

Instead, what I do use and really like is the RainX Windshield Washer fluid. It leaves a nice coating that does not smear and it does not cause the wipers to chatter.

I have used it for years on several vehicles and never had a problem with blade chatter. I agree with Greg that small drops do not blow off and require the wipers, especially the spray from other vehicles. I think they changed the formula from years ago, it doesn't last as long as it once did. I am going to have to try AquaPel, I never heard of it until today.

              Hey Tim.

I've been using UQW on my windshield and I just started getting chatter, any thoughts? I've never used RainX on the IS (have on the CR-V - with no chatter) but I'm a bit ticked at getting chatter on a virtually new wiper blade on the IS.

Hey 3fitty, it has been a while my friend!

Because UQW was not designed for windshields, I would imagine that when the product wears off, just like when RainX does, it will provide places where the wipers grab and others where the product remains, glides right over. Hence, severe chatter in some cases.

Honestly, I am not a fan of waxing a windshield as a wax normally will cause smearing and star-bursts when a headlight shines through it at night. I normally use M04 Heavy Cut Cleaner to clean the glass thoroughly and then maintain with Meguiar's Glass Cleaner.

It seems like some people can use RainX with success, some get chatter. Some can wax with success, some get chatter. Some can UQD/UQW with success, some get chatter. Or smearing, etc. If you want a window coating, hopefully you can try a few things, and one will work.

My own observation with Rain X is NOT to use it on your side mirrors as they are typically not made of glass and is more like a coated plastic. Use the Rain X long enough and it seems to cause the reflective 'glass' on the plastic to fade off.

Speaking of RainX, what about the fluid aditive they sell? Is it just to be added to regular windshield liquid or does the mix need to be done with plain water? Is it resistant to freeze? Thanx for the infos !

I use that additive in my truck, though I'm not sure if any is in there presently. Seems to work pretty alright.

I fully stand by the additive. I use it in my cars and it works great! I would suggest that over applying the actual Rain-x. It can be added to regular windshield liquid or water. It does a good job in the winter too. It coats the same way as the manual stuff does without the haze! This is the easiest yet! Definitely worth a try.

Isn't the additive "incompatible" with standard windshield fluid? I mean, these are usually very aggressive so as to get rid of bugs and so forth. So adding some sort of "waxed" product to it seems weird. Not knowing the composition of this additive makes me wonder if it isn't bad for the windshield washing system either...

Ok I ordered and received both products (the stuff to be applied and the additive). I dont fully realize what kind of problems some folks have to apply it though. I did one pass with a Ultimate Shine MF, did all the windows starting with the windshield, then did another light pass with the product, and finally wiped off slowly with a clean MF. Did'nt leave any traces that I could see. I havn't driven the car under the rain yet, so I dont know about wiper rubbing, or streaks, but so long, so good...
