  • Scratched Clear Coat Chrome rim

Hi new here, was wondering if their is anyway to get scratches out of my rims. Their my first set of rims had no idea they were clear coated and used some chrome polish that left them with the scratches. Is there anyway to get them out.

Just have to try using a paint cleaner, and see where you get.

How agressive were you with the chrome polish? Any pics?

I would try SwirlX first, then Ultimate Compound if needed. And they can be used on your car in the future for cleaning, SwirlX being milder of course, so esp SwirlX would get used up over time.

Although, if you just hoped to buy one product, and not have stuff left over, you could try ScratchX 2.0. Its kind of in the middle of the two above.

Thanks Murr I'll try whatever it takes. Heading out later to get the swirlx and ultimate compound.

Well I went out and got scratch X 2.0 very minimal results, did it by hand. Should I try UC also, or should I expect the same results.

Check how you applied it first. For instance, if it was on the car, you could almost rock the car on its springs. This is ScratcHX 1.0, so the 2.0 should work better for you, but as you can see, there is still a good bit of effort involved.

                Hey,

The clear coat that is used on wheels is not the same as the CC paint. I would would be very careful using an aggressive compound as it may haze the wheel's CC even worse. I suggest using the PlastX (Headlight Restoration Kit) Kit. It was not designed for that use, but if used carefully, should restore the CC on the wheels back to like new status... I actually use special wheel buffs....

Small buffs can be seen here...plus I have small 3" finishing pads as well...

Kinda confused now. By looking at the video its obvious to me that I did not apply the scratch x correctly. I just used the terry cloth and wiped it away, but now not sure if I should go out and by the pads to apply the swirl x, or by the PlastX.

Did you get a chance to look at my links?

The problem with CC wheels is that because it is more durable than regular CC (due to the repeated heat cycles), you may have to try a few different items to find one that works. The good thing about trying the PlastX kit is at least you have the PlastX for your headlights etc as well.

ScratchX is not a wipe on wipe off product. It needs to be worked in until it is almost gone. However, on CC wheels as I mentioned, you are not dealing with the same type of CC as CC paint. Therefore, what works for one, may not work for the other.
