clean battery

I have an optoma red top battery that I am going to swap out for the stock battery in my truck. The red top battery was from another truck and it is pretty greasy.

Should I just cover up the terminals and go to town? Do I need to cover them up if it is not plugged into anything and can be dried off easy?

It should be just fine to clean it, just keep any battery off of cement.
