We basically offer the following 3 pads in our Soft Buff 2.0 line:

Re: New car, swirled..what did I do?

I ordered the orange pad, and the polishing pad. Here's my plan.

            Wash
            Clay (Mothers clay, Megs QD
            Orange Pad + UC
            Jewel Polishing pad + NXT

I plan on doing this on my 98 grand prix. It's a daytona pace car, it's a really nice shade of blue and is swirled, just looks like it hasn't been taken care of.

I did a spot on the hood tonight, I did the "Spot test" and i was impressed, all I did was clay with swirl-x and nxt, all by hand..and the results were good. The PC would DEFINATELY have taken the swirls out...and from reading the reviews, it seems like the orange pad + UC is a great combo.

no need to be a smart mouth. I have read and heard that palmolive will remove all older waxes/polishes that I had on the car.

                    Most definitely.

It is a common practice, though not one Meguiar's recommends, to use a dish washing detergent to remove any existing wax prior to doing a full detail. No need to jump on Jeff for choosing to go that route, and we certainly hope that discussions here and now.

Does W8207 fits on generic 7" backing plate or I need Meguiar's backing plate? The generic backing plate is not flexible, should I just throw it away? If I need to pick up new backing plate, I would like little smaller one provided the washable SoftBuff 2.0 pads come in smaller sizes.

                      Thanks,

While our Soft Buff 2.0 pads will work on a "standard" D/A backing plate, they do benefit from using our W68DA plate. The W68DA drops right into the recess on the back of the pads making centering a snap, plus it has good flex on the perimeter giving you better control in tighter or uneven areas.

What is the external diameter of W68DA plate? Is it exactly 7" or less than that? Your description makes it sound like backing plate diameter is smaller than the pad diameter. A picture with exact dimension would be greatly appreciated.

                          Thanks,

The W68DA backing plate and the W68 rotary backing plates have a 5.75" diameter and fit perfectly into the recess on the back of the Soft Buff 2.0 pads. The pads themselves are 7" in diameter.

So if I understood correctly, the SoftBuff 2.0 pads will NOT fit on generic 7" backing plate. The backing plate will not be able to get in to the recessed area of the pad. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Re: New car, swirled..what did I do?

I decided to try this process on my 98 GTP that is in need of some TLC.

                                1) Washed with Palmolive twice
                                2) Dried with absorber
                                3) Clayed with Mothers clay (All I had) and meguiars qd

Heres what it looked like when I was done.

The paint is rediculously smooth. I didnt get a chance to see what condition its in now since I clayed/got all the old wax off.

                                Todays steps.

                                1) tape off all cracks/wheel wells, etc
                                2) UC on Orange LC Pad
                                3) M7 on Black LC Pad
                                4) NXT on Yellow Jewelers pad

I am EXTREMELY pumped about doing this, I am anticipating great results.
