  • NXT 2.0 vs. Klasse High Gloss

I've been using the NXT 2.0 with very good results, though with the constant care I give the car I don't know how long it might last on its own. I keep reading about the durability of the Klasse and wonder if anyone has compared the performance (ease of use, appearance, etc.) and durability with the NXT. I do hear that the Klasse doesn't look very good (poor gloss, depth, etc.) and that it can be hard to remove.

So anyone with Klasse experience who's compared the two?

Re: NXT 2.0 vs. Klasse High Gloss

the never ending topic of comparing different waxes :].......

the only way for you to really compare and be satisfied with waxes, is if you try it yourself and look at the results 50/50 on a fully prepped surface, because people have different opinions and taste...

If your happy with one product, I would recommend you sticking to that product..

but I also heard Klasse was a great product when it comes to the durability.. :]

Well, I've tried it 50-50 on the hood. The two leave a very different look on the car. The NXT has a very sharp gloss that almost floats off the surface and makes this metalic black, clear coated car look darker. The Klasse leaves a more subdued shine and makes the car look a dark metallic gray, more what the paint looks like clayed and polished with no LSP on it. The shine with the Klasse is less flashy, but more natural looking to my eye. On ease of use alone, the NXT is way ahead of the Klasse. The Klasse, used with a *very* thin coat, is very hard to remove and I found it was necessary to let it dry overnight to completely remove it. In fairness, I applied the Klasses by hand, which I don't do with anything else.

Forget about brand for a minute, which product sounds like the winner from this description:

Brand A - gives a very sharp gloss that almost floats off the surface and makes the paint look darker (sounds a lot like "depth")
Brand B - makes a metallic black car look dark metallic gray with a subdued shine

Brand A - admittedly way ahead of Brand B with regard to ease of use
Brand B - even a very thin coat is very difficult to remove and required overnight drying

So, a darker, wetter shine that's far easier to achieve, or a flatter, grayer look that's sort of a pain to achieve. Especially for a person who gives their car "constant care", is there even a question here?

I was going to say the same thing Michael. Sounds to me NXT is ahead here.

Well Michael, I was trying to lay it out as objectively as I saw it. But my original question was about durability and that is, of course, undetermined by my little test. On the ease of application, I would guess that a machine application of the Klasse with a finishing pad would provide a more even coat that would be easier to remove. On the question of appearance--though I didn't go into detail on it--I think there is some question. The NXT makes me think of the line, "Who's that car with your wax job?" The Klasse has a more natural appearance and doesn't call attention to itself. The paint is actually called "Sapphire Black Metalic" and I would say it is actually dark grey, but the NXT makes it look black. So I'm not sure about the appearance. Myself, I would go with the one that had the most durability and provided the most protection from water spot, bird and other damage.

Re: NXT 2.0 vs. Klasse High Gloss

Ah yes, the question of appearance. Now that is about as personal thing as one can get. What you like, I may not like - or I may love it! Or you and I will think it's fantastic and half a dozen others will tell us we're crazy.

              To-may-to, to-mah-to.

Protection from water spots, bird droppings and other things that can and do actually etch into the paint is a tough call. Unless the product you pour out of a bottle, wipe on and then wipe off only to leave a microscopically thin layer behind, is actually stronger than the paint itself then these things will continue to attack the paint. Waxes and sealants are sacrificial barriers that will preserve the high gloss finish achieved through proper prep and polish, but they are not impervious layers.

You mention that you take "constant care" of your vehicle, so we're curious as to how often you actually wax the car. Many enthusiasts wax their car every month - certainly a more frequent time period than is probably required by even a very inexpensive wax. Do you still have these two products side by side on the hood of your car? If so, how long have they been there and what are your observations? It sounds as though you're already conducting the test, and certainly all readers of this thread will be interested in your findings.

                Michael,

Yes the issue of appearance is very subjective. I don't even know what I prefer.

I don't use a schedule, but I would guess that I fully clean (clay, Swirl-X and NXT 2.0 or clay, Cleaner Wax and NXT 2.) about three to four times a year). In between I wash the car when it has real dirt on it and follow up the wash with the UQD, which is a terrific product. Between washes, for light dust, I use a California Car Duster and UQD. I have also used the UQW a few times, but I'm not sure it does more than the UQD, except for appearance. It leaves the surface way too shiny for my tastes--almost looks like the car has cellophane glued to the paint.

I have left the hood half and half (done only yesterday), so I can report back if you like. Three to four months is a stretch in durability for any product I've used, though I know people make much longer claims. This is a garaged car and it is not even used daily.

Incidentally- when I'm ready, can I apply the NXT 2.0 directly over the Klasse on the hood or do I have to somehow remove it?

                Thanks,
                Wally

Ha!! We all seem to waiver from time to time, trying this and that and then going back to this! Some times it's hard to decide just within the Meguiar's line of waxes, hence the adage "find something you like and use it often".

When the time comes, should you choose to apply NXT over the Klasse you should be just fine. Especially considering there probably won't be much of the Klasse left by that time anyway.

klasse can be remove easy if u got use with , needs 2 towels and some qd.wow method i think.
klasse win in durability , and i think the finish is better.
i use nxt 2 and have good results as well.

Re: NXT 2.0 vs. Klasse High Gloss

I have discovered a method for NXT 2.0 that works for me really well, especially on black cars.

I apply two layers of NXT 2.0. For the first layer, I apply NXT 2.0 with a DA using a black finishing pad at speed 5. I work the NXT 2.0 into the paint until it starts to dissipate. That TRULY brings out the gloss of the paint that rivals that of M26. Why on earth would I do that? NXT 2.0 contains a very small trace of Polishing and Cleaning agents. These cleaning and polishing properties are much MUCH finer than the ones found in the M205 and SwirlX polishes. The extremely fine polish, I believe, will jewel the and enhance the paint at a much finer level.

Then for the second layer, I apply NXT 2.0 using the blue finessing pad at speed 3 so that this layer can cure on to the paint.

Some people here will probably disagree with me and even flame me on the basis that NXT 2.0 is not designed to "jewel" the surface, and that the chemists never intended the product to be used in such way. However, I find the method to be noticeably effective and I personally can see the difference.

At the end of the day that's all that matters.

Did you use Klasse all-in-one prior to using Klasse Sealant Glaze it makes the product pop more.

You can use a wax or a sealant over Klasse all-in-one for excellence results.
