  • #105 and #205

    Hi there.
I'm about to get a DAS6 DA along with some 105 and 205.
I've read a few things here and there about these products but there is still something I dont get :
If the compounds in 105 break down and get thinner, what's the use for 205? I thought at firtst you were supposed to pass 105 and then 205...
    Thanx for your input !

BTW. 105 and 205 can be used on a DA right? Not only with a rotary?
Which pad would be used on a DA? Cutting for 105 and Polishing for 205?

    Re: #105 and #205

M105 contains no diminishing abrasives. It does not break down like 80/83/82/etc...

Yes, safe for a DA. Use M105 with a yellow Meguiar's pad, then M205 with a yellow or black Meguiar's pad. Then you LSP.

        Hi!

Like Nick said you can use M105 and M205 with a DA polisher. Meguiars does not recommend using the cutting pad with the DA polisher. When you say cutting pad I am assuming you mean the red pad. Use the yellow polishing pad with these 2 products.

M83 and M80 are tried and true Meguiars products. If you ask anyone who has been around here awhile they will normally say they still use them. I have them all and use them in different situations for different applications. 83/80 have buffered abrasives while 105/205 use the new SMAT technology.

So M105 and then M205 or.....
M83 and then M80 using the yellow polishing pad.

Sp and what's the best? With what product will I achieve the best results on a DA?
SMAT is what's being used in SwirlX i.e.?

You mean LSP? LSP = Last Step Product

SMAT is Super Micro Abrasive Technology

If I had to choose and I was trying to decide which product to buy I would go with 105/205. You can always get 83/80 at another time. Either combo will give great results with the DA polisher. And then there is the old saying "find something you like and use it often"

              Sorry I misstyped.
              Please read :
              "SO what's the best".
Sure I'd be using something I like. But Meguiar's dont make things easy to find out WHAT ;-)
If I can avoid buying ALL of Megs products, that would be good news too ;-)
I guess since 105-205 are more recent, I'd rather go for those ones?

Edit. Sorry I guess I posted in the wrong section. Can you please correct this and get my thread onto the proper one?
              Thanx

No worries..... we've moved this to the Detailing 101 area.

                  About the Pro line again.
I understand Quick detailer is Meguiar's Last Touch Spray Detailer.
Is there an equivalent to the Ultimate Quick Detailer and Ultimate Quick Wax? What would be the Pro items for these products?

                    UQD is similar to #135.

There are no spray waxes in the pro-line.

Best ? - Everybody has opinion and many have more than one.

However, M105 & M205 are excellent products and will handle just about any job very well.

You have not mentioned what you are trying to achieve. New car, old car, good paint condition, lots of swirls, etc... You'll get better advice and feedback if we know what you are trying to do. Photos are very helpful.

M105 is one of the most aggressive polishes in the Meguiar's line. You may not need that much power.

                        Re: #105 and #205

My car is a late 2006 Skoda Octavia, "Diamond grey" color. I have a few scratches here and there, most of which I probably wont be able to get rid off without paint touchup and wetsand. Swirls are VERY hard to see on such a coor. Either because there are none, or because of the color itself. Even in bright sunlight I have a hard time seing anything.
What I try to achieve is having the best possible shiny looking car that I can. Skoda is owned by VW, so maybe they share the same kind af paint hardness but I'm not sure.
Else, I'll probably have to work on a 5 series BMW, black. I havn't had a chance to examine it properly yet, so I dont know to what extend it's swirled or not.
I'll postr pictures of my car asap.
                        Regards,

Here we go. That was just after Claying, SwirlX by hand, probably not very well, TechWax2 and UQD.

Awe Nick, you seriously couldn't have recommended this combination!?

                            I suggest...perhaps a 5.5'' Orange LC CCS pad and a " " " White pad will be more effective with M105 & M205 on a DA polisher.
I just hate to see you headed down the road I did (with 7'' SoftBuff 2.0 Yellows w/ M105 & M205 on speed 5/6 on my G110 DA) and achieve little to no correction. It will save you a few months of experimentation.
