  • NXT Smear removal

    Hi,

I need some help with NXT tech wax. I put it on lightly let sit for 10-15 min then wipe of with MF. I use one towel to take off matereial then another for final buffing , i have used up to 6 NEW mf residue free towels and still cant get all of the smearing to go away, ANY help would be welcomed.....

Have you tried leaving it on a little longer? In colder or damp weather it may take a little longer to haze.

You might try the The Swipe Test, here's the link....

        Hi Wildland,

Just to double check with you, what condition is the paint in?

Is the car parked outside often? After washing, did you run you hand over the finish to inspect for bonded contaminants?

It could be you need to clay your car and then use a paint cleaner like Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner or ScratchX before applying the Tech Wax.

Best results with Tech Wax, or most waxes is to apply 2 thin coats, working each coat into the finish thoroughly. The second coat will insure even appearance and coverage.

Is the smearing after the first coat? or the second coat?

Stop where you are on the finish right now, and assuming it's still clean and dust-free, go ahead and apply another thin, thorough coat of the NXT Tech Wax onto the finish. Be sure to shake the bottle before starting.

This time, apply and remove to one section at a time allowing each section to dry to a haze before removing. The goal is to see if you can get good results with a small area, say the hood, before you apply to the entire car.

If you can apply the second coat to the hood, let it dry and then remove it and get good results, then you repeat this success to the entire car. If you can't make one section look good, then we need to stop here and re-evaluate the situation.

                    Does that make sense?

                        Count me IN!!!!

About the paint I will try it again this weekend

I am doing the Bimmer in the AM so we shall see!

Its really weird I have it in the garage with the flouresents and then I pull it outside and thats when i see the oily smears....I was going to try som eQD over it. I think it might be trying to take off the product too fast too much with the MF's

Thanks for the dec 4 class.....

I think Lynn is right... It might have been too soon to remove the residue.

                            Wildland,
I agree with all of the above. I would have suspected humidity as Lynn did (I just wrote a reply suggesting that here ) , but if it's not that your best bet is to do one section at a time as Mike said.

I washed and waxed a gold pontiac for a neighbor the other night and it started getting dark so I did a really fast job. As the night humidity rose after I applied Eagle One to the whole car (sorry guys, I ran out of cleaner/wax and needed the closest one step product) and it was very hard to remove. But my solution was to just use more "elbow grease" wearing my right arm out. This is a quick solution that usually works, but again like Mike said, if this keeps happening you need to re-evaluate the cause. After all, if I understand correctly, any quality wax should wipe off with ease.

Lynn is absolutely right. In either colder or damp weather NXT may take a little longer to haze.
