Newbie 1st time ColorX use - pic inside

Can someone steer me in the right direction? My paint on my passenger side and rear passenger quarter panel is hazy/faded. I did half the door and it has came out pretty good. The front fender is still more clear than the section I did. What advice can anyone give me to get the haze out of the door and rear quarter panel. I've attached a pic of my progress so far.

Looks like great improvement thus far, but if you aren't achieving the results you are after you may want to consider stepping up to a more aggressive product. ColorX is quite mild in terms of cutting ability, but seems to be doing fairly well.

I would start with SwirlX and then evaluate from there. You will want to follow SwirlX with ColorX or another wax as well.

I'm not sure if anyone can tell from the picture but the front fender is still shiner than the half of the door I did. Should I give SwirlX 2.0 a try and then wax?

Yes, this would be the next step to try on that same door half, and the ColorX you have, while a cleaner wax, will be just fine for following the SwirlX. Remember to work SwirlX with some "passion" if you are doing it by hand, just spreading it on and removing it won't do much.

Should I use SwirlX or ScratchX 2.0? I've read that 2.0 is more aggressive than ColorX whereas SwirlX isn't?

I am most certainly not the resident expert on this topic, and I'm sure someone will post the link for the aggressiveness of the various compounds but as I understand it, going from least to most aggressive, it's ColorX, SwirlX, ScratchX 2.0 and Ultimate Compound. The old ScratchX was much less aggressive if I recall correctly.

SwirlX and UC both come in a nice big bottle, good for using on a whole car, maybe even several cars. ScratchX 2.0 is meant more as a spot treatment product and it comes in a container half as large as the SwirlX and UC containers. I'm not saying you can't use ScratchX 2.0 on the entire car but rather that SwirlX is more appropriate for the job you are facing.

First ColorX is a cleaner/wax and the other three products being discussed here are all dedicated swirl and scratch removers.

Second, ColorX uses diminishing abrasives and all three of these new products use our new super micro abrasive technology. It's going to be hard for anyone that has not used M105 by hand as compared to ScratchX to understand what a huge leap this is in technology.

Is your question how aggressive or non-aggressive is ColorX compared to these three new products or just SwirlX?

Probably somewhere between ScratchX 2.0 and SwirlX

Besides that, a person would use ColorX if they only want to do one step and leave wax protection behind, if that doesn't describe you then you must be planning on doing a multiple step process and if that's the case then you would pick a dedicated defect remover and afterwards polish and wax or just wax.

To answer your question about where products fit in the progression, and seeing it's not been posted here yet, here's a link to Mike's post about the product progression as far as aggressiveness goes. Please keep in mind one thing though, it's an estimation...... various products can be made to be more OR less aggressive depending on how you employ them.

As for your question about it being harder to use ScratchX 2.0 vs SwirlX, I don't think so but you have not actually told us if you are working by hand, DA or Rotary but I'll assume you're working by hand. If you have ScratchX 2.0 already, then sure... I'd try a test section of about half of the section you've already done and compare the results. The problem with going up in aggressiveness too quickly is that you might be removing more paint than necessary to achieve your goal and possibly put you in the situation of having to use a milder product to remove slight marring left by the more aggressive product. No one knows for sure until YOU do a test spot so you can see what the results will be on YOUR car with you using YOUR technique. I have all the above mentioned X products in my kit.... I would work my way up the ladder to find the least aggressive product that would get the job done.

I'm working by hand. I tried out the tube of ScratchX2.0......WOW!

I was already impressed by the improvement the ColorX made but ScratchX made it even better. I'm so thrilled with these products. So many products make claims but these actually deliver!

Also, thank you for the advice. It has helped out a lot! I plan to buy a DA soon so hopefully it will make this job easier. I also plan on buying a halogen light and probably some NXT 2.0 when I'm done using ScratchX 2.0 all over the car.
