  • Door Jambs Cleaning Solution?

What is the best fluid to clean door jambs. Regretfully I do not have APC or APC+, which are known to be the best solution to clean door jambs. I was tempted to use degreaser, but I do not want to dull off the paint in that area and cause premature crack on the rubber seals. I have some ultra-plush bristle brush and boar's hair brush to clean the door jambs.

Is there a solution I can use? Ideally I want to put some cleaning solution in a spray bottle.

I have used dish soap ect. Dawn works pretty well and free rinsing.

I've used diluted Purple Power degreaser on my door jambs, no dulling. Its especially effective on the gunk covered parts.

I use a diluted Simple Green solution with outstanding results. Spray it on and give it 3 or 4 minutes and wipe off clean. The job definitely isn't finished if the Door Jambs are dirty and greasy.

The cars I have come across really havent been to bad and Last touch with a slide lock brush takes care of them and then I dress the rubber with M40.

I think I remember reading a thread on this here or on another forum. Gimme a sec and Ill dig it up for you.

I'd do car wash as much as possible, with a brush or old terry towel.

                    Re: Door Jambs Cleaning Solution?

Yeah, I will definitely use some degreaser, Purple Power or Simple Green diluted, for the greasy and oily hinges. However, for door jambs where there are rubber seals, I want to use something gentle.

I used Quik Detailer and a Microfiber towel cloth to clean those area, but the dirty seals leave the cloth very dirty. From what I have read, APC and APC+ are still on the harsher side.

So, taking the advices in this thread, I will make a hybrid solution for my cleaning needs. Taking Shyneman123's advice, I immediately headed out to my local drug store and found this on sale for $1.99:

DAWN plus Power Scrubbers Antibacterial Hand Soap Dishwashing Liquid

If this thing is gentle enough for my hands and the cute duckie, it should be gentle enough for rubber seals. I will mix this with some car soap and water, then mix it in a spray bottle for cleaning the door jambs... I will touch up the seals with M40.

                            Re: Door Jambs Cleaning Solution?

Once you get the jambs cleaned up (lots of good suggestions here to substitute for the APC you unfortunately do not posses), and after you've dressed any rubber seals/trim with M40, give the painted areas a quick spray and wipe with UQW.

UQW does an outstanding job on door jambs and door sills because it doesn't stain any surrounding trim (heck, it practically enhances it!) and is so easy to use. After washing when those little trickles of water inevitably leave a trail of spots behind inside the doors, UQW cleans things up very nicely - and quickly.

Is APC appropriate for cleaning door jambs? Can it destroy the paint? it's what I use...
