  • Another Window Cleaning Question

Try as I might, I still cannot locate Meguiar's window cleaner in my area. Depot, Lowe's, Discount/Advance, Wal-Mart, etc.

Seems I've heard some pretty good reports about Invisible Glass which is readily available without exorbitant shipping. What I'm concerned about is purpling of my dealer installed tint. Is this an acceptable substitute in your personal experience?

    Here's the product link:http://www.invisibleglass.com/index.htm

A few videos which you might find interesting, or at least to pass your time if you're as bored a me being on the Forum on such a nice afternoon. http://www.invisibleglass.com/VideoIG.htm

Some tips for newbies such as myself: http://www.invisibleglass.com/HowTo.htm

Please understand that I know Meguiar's glass cleaner is supposed to be fantastic, and I don't mean to promote a competitive item on the Forum; I merely can't find the stuff! I also don't necessarily need ten gallons of product, since for the few rare times I'll need a window cleaner, this aerosol should last me quite a while.

As usual, thanks for all your valuable input!!!

According to Autogeek, IG is safe for tinted windows. It says "Safe for tinted windows" right above where it says "Aerosol Shipped UPS Ground Only".

RGP, to be fair, you should know that Meguiars D120 Glass Cleaner Concentrate, along with 100 of the most-used supplies (by pro's and enthusiasts) and sizes from Meguiars' various product lines are not found in stores. So the "I can't find it" gripe is not a valid excuse to try another product!!

You must either order them online (my favorite, ADS autodetailingsolutions)
or you must go to http://meguiars.com/dealerlocator/ and click "Professional Products" to locate your local PBE auto paint store, who will either have the supplies in stock, or can order them in for free within a couple days.

I forgot to check if you were from Canada, which always seems to be the dealbreaker , but I assume you're in the States here.

Having said that, I haven't had success with Inivisible Glass, IPA, Windex, or D120 on the stubborn constantly-moving film on my interior front & rear windshields on my 09 Civic...

When you do find an appropriate cloth or towel though, D120 does work in many applications, and it's hard to beat the price too because its 1gallon makes 11 gallons of proper concentrate .

I am pretty sure he is looking for NXT Glass Cleaner, not the gallon of concentrate in the D Line.

Well then that nullifies almost everything that I said.

Still, if you can't find it in stores (do any of us actually get much of our Megs supplies in-store? I get everything, even from the consumer line, online), try ADS .

            Re: Another Window Cleaning Question

This is just my opinion about glass cleaners. I drive a school bus for a living...yea, I must be crazy. I have tried all the glass cleaners in the world...TWICE, YES TWO TIMES, on my bus to find a good one. I have twelve large windons on the passenger side and, yes, twelve on the drivers side and two large windows in the front and one large window in the back. I am on the ultimate quest for a good glass cleaner. I didn't think it would be that high of a mountain to climb. Oh, foolish one, me. They all clean fairly well instantly, that is not the problem. The problem is that they all dirty up very quickly. That includes Invisable Window that isn't so invisable after the first 24 hours. All the brands attract dust and cleaning streaks show up after just 24 hours.
I have just now ordered Meguair's NXT Glass Cleaner on-line. It is the last best hope of mankind for long lasting clean glass. I just hope that the glass cleaners don't come out of the same factory with different labels and that Meguairs is actually something different and better. Of course, that is a lot to expect. I guess hope springs eternal.

Towel wise, I like the glass buffing towels at ADS but also like terry cloth towels for glass cleaning.

I have only had very limited experience with the stoners but I did like it, a pretty decent product. However, my favorite glass cleaner is sprayway! It is hte best ive used (havent used any megs) but I love it!

                Re: Another Window Cleaning Question

I just don't have a large order to place at the moment to somewhat nullify the shipping for such an inexpensive, one item order.

Found some Invisible at Advance for 25% off for a net of $3.37. Once again, no NXT window cleaner to be had. Lots of Rain X, Armorall if I recall, and some I never heard of. Whatever, it'll meet my needs.

                    Re: Another Window Cleaning Question

                    How have you been, BOB?

Invisible Glass Cleaner has a much larger userbase than Meguiar's Glass Cleaner. In fact, Stoner's Invisible Glass cleaner is probably one of the nation's most popular automotive glass cleaning products. The fact that almost all automotive and household stores carry this product makes this more apparent. With so many glass cleaners out there, Meguiar's is probably one of the least popular. Those who use the Meguiar's glass cleaner are using it for brand loyalty's sake.

Although Meguiar's makes very decent products for the price, there are better products out there produced by highly specialized companies dedicated to research and development in a particular field of product. With that said, I am not saying that Meguiar's glass cleaner is inferior, there are many other great products out there that do not bear the label of your preferred brands.

Good quality tints will not turn purple regardless of the type of chemical you use on it. And on that bombshell, get the Invisible Glass Cleaner if you are unable to locate the Meguiar's glass cleaner.

                      Re: Another Window Cleaning Question

Occasionally, Meguiars offers a deal that gives free shipping on your entire order. When this happens, I replenish my stock of the gallon jugs of Detailer line products. The Detailer line glass cleaner concentrate is the best glass cleaner I've ever come across. Might want to keep this in mind for their next free shipping offer. Not only do I consider this a better cleaner than IG, it is also a better value for the buck, despite the previous poster's claim. Do the math.

I use ADS exclusively for large orders, except for just picking up one low cost item locally. Here's ADS's checkout and the reason I'm annoyed I cannot find a simple spritz bottle of NXT glass cleaner locally. Seven American to ship a six dollar item...

$6.95 for shipping is a bargain, considering Rick probably uses a huge box just to ship out a bottle of glass cleaner, and spends 30min packaging it to give you a hard time unpacking the parcel...

Good to know, Jim. Thank you for the heads up. I'm on their email list and will take advantage of that if I ever see it.

I agree, but I shouldn't have to pay his very fair shipping costs just to get what should be a readily available consumer line product at my local auto supply store. Doesn't anybody get this???
