  • Which Megs is closest to a 'natural' look protectant?

New to most of this. Don't really want that shiny wet-looking dash and plastic/vinyl, just something that looks natural, like the car just came from the assembly line kind of look. Something that will protect and all the good stuff, but without the shine..

    Mike? Anyone?

I like the NXT protectant. It looks glossy when you first put it on. Go over it with a microfiber and it tones down and looks great.

I think #40 makes the vinyl and rubber look like new. No shine just a rich, natural glow.

        Hi Hellspawn,

        What are you working on?

If it's older, the #40 offers some good chemical cleaning action, if it's newer the Cockpit Shine offers more protectant.

Like rdarwa posted, if after applying each of these products and allowing them to penetrate for a period of time, if you then wipe the surface down really well you leave behind a nice, matte looking finish with a deep rich look.

Here's an interior of a 1999 Corvette Lynn detailed with the Cockpit Shine, (Now replaces NXT Generation Tech Protectant).

Why was tech protectant replaced already? Wasn't it a new product?

            Mike,

The vehicles in question are an 01 Taurus and Jeep Grand Cherokee and (2) '97 Maximas. They are all in great shape, I saw the Cockpit shine at wallyworld the other day , I'll give it a try and see how she works.

            thank you

Thank you for your thoughts, I've gotten the idea cockpit shine/tech protectant is worth getting and trying

              thanks!

The NXT Tech Protectant wasn't replaced.. It was just relabeled as the NXT Cockpit Shine... This was done to help distinguish it from the NXT Booster Wax..

I would suggest Meguiar's Hyper Dressing from the Detailer line.. When used with the right dilution ratio, it will create a matte finish and also, the surface wouldn't be oily!

Bri, The only problem with hyper dress is it offers no protection. Mike Phillips, please correct me if I am wrong.

I think that this shouldn't be an issue for the interior.. Also, if you clean it regularly, it shouldn't be a problem... I mean that's how I deal with it.. lol! I dust the interior once a week without any type of dressing... (I hate the oily surface, and it attracts dust a lot)

                        Bri,
I agree that you should keep your interior clean, but IMHO protection is very important because of UV rays.....at least if you plan on keeping your vehicle for a long time. Also, w/o UV protection, you dash can fade....

Really? I didn't know that... I just use the sunshade when we park the car outside... So far, the color still hasn't changed... I will keep that in mind Slats. Thanks.

FYI, your glass windshield provides many times more UV protection than a microscopic coating applied to your dash.

I wouldn't worry about UV damaging any new car dash. Heat and drying-out are another matter. I've got a 14 year old black vinyl dash that looks as good today as when new. No fading whatsoever. It gets a #40 treatment once a year.

Like I said, its just my opinion. I have an 88 Accord with 175+ thousand miles and it definitly had faded before I bought the car a couple years ago. With a protectant (I'll confess I use Armor All) it looks new, but if I try to go with a lower gloss or no protectant at all, it really looks dull and faded from what the color should be.
Also, if you ever feel how hot your dash is in the sun, you might think about protecting it. After all, we protect our paint and vinyl has pigment too, right?
