  • Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner on windshield

I am new here and if this is in the wrong section I apologize. Last weekend I detailed my interior and wasn't paying attention when applying Meguiar's #40 Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner Conditioner to my dash. I was pretty tired since it was 11pm and I meant to spray the applicator, but ended up spraying the dash directly which lead to some over/mist on the corner of the interior windshield. I didn't realize this till the next day since I only could see it from an angle in the sun and under bright lights, but I noticed the spots and tried to clean the winshield with Stoners which didn't work.

Now I am in need of some advice/suggestions. I have searched and read a few post concerning windshield cleaning and since the spots are in the corner I cannot get a DA in there and will need to tackle this by hand. So far mentioned I have tried using Stoners, but have also tried using a clay bar as well. The next thing I read that I will try is rubbing alcohol.

I was reading others suggestions of UC, scratch x and swirl x. Would a cleaner wax such as NXT 2.0 be helpful?

I will try to get some pics but they basically look like water spots except on the interior side. Thanks to whom ever can help.

do NOT wax your window! the wax isnt meant for glass!

I recently ordered a Glass scrub from the brand called "glass science" from a online site called "autogeek.net" if you don't mind ordering online you can try that site.

The products you listed are not made for windshields and i don't suggest you to try it.

The glass scrub I ordered didn't arrive yet but it says "Glass Science Glass Scrub Auto Glass Stripper removes bugs, tree sap, water spots, oily residues, and more – without scratching! More than a glass cleaner, Glass Scrub Auto Glass Stripper removes things that glass cleaners leave behind to create truly clean, clear auto glass."

There would really be nothing wrong with using SwirlX/UC on the inside to get off the conditioner, you really shouldnt need it.

I am surprised the glass cleaner didnt work, but I have never used Stoners to compare, see how strong it is, etc.

I would try the alcohol, maybe 50/50 at first on a cloth. Make sure the cloth is wet/damp from the liquid, but not dripping.

I have the glass scrub and thought about it using on the inside, but it requires the glass to be wet and since this is in a tight corner on the inside it maybe difficult.

I was pretty surprised as well it's a new windshield to which makes it worse. Thanks for the suggestion about the alcohol.

So I tried the alcohol mix and tried using a clay bar with no luck. Any other ideas?

You might try some adhesive remover. You can usually buy it in small cans at most auto parts stores.

                Full strength alcohol? Goo Gone?

                Try the SwirlX?

                  Goo gone or WD-40?

Re: Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner on windshield

I know it has been awhile, but here is the update.

The spots were definitely etched into the class. I could glide my finger nail across the spots and feel the edges. So basically cleaners and adhesive removers would not remove for obvious reasons and an abrasive polish was necessary. Since the spots are in the corner near the dash portion of the windshield as I mentioned and I could not get my PC or Flex in the corner again for obvious reasons I had to use a polish or compound that could worked by hand or block sand the portion with wet dry paper.

I was afraid the polish would work but leave a swirl haze, but let me say the Swirl X is probably by far the best product I have used by machine and hand to remove really minor minor imperfections. Took maybe 5-10 minutes of working it per a section by hand along the bottom portion/corners of the windshield.

Some sections required a second pass but almost if not all of the etchings are gone and the glass looks like new. Looked at the glass under the florescent light at night and natural light during the day from different angles and saw no imperfections from the polish. If the swirl x failed to adequately remove the etchings the next step would have been 2500grit, 3000grit wet dry sand paper, then the swirl x.

Sorry about not being able to take pictures, but I hope this helps anyone who runs into a similar situation.
