  • The Morning After

Well, we had good weather this weekend in STL, so I decided to take the pc for its maiden voyage on my Silverado. This was the process:

    Wash
    Clay
    Wash
    DC 2 (via W-8006)
    NXT (via W-9006)

The paint isn't in the best condition, and the pics probably aren't worthy of MOL, but I have a few questions/comments after the experience.

I may step up in product aggressiveness since some of the scratches remained. Maybe DACP.

NXT was a joy to remove.

About 3/4 of the way through with NXT, my pad appeared to reach a level of saturation where it wouldn't accept any more product. Is this normal, and is there anything I should do differently next time? I didn't seem to have this problem with DC 2.

Is it OK to clean/soak both pads in the same wash bucket. I didn't know if I should be concerned about product cross-contamination. Thank you in advance.

It kind of sounds like over use of product to me... It's easy to do, keep adding more and more product in an effort to lay down a nice even coat of wax. Maybe next time, try applying very thin strips of wax onto the face of your pad?

Meguiar's doesn't actually recommend soaking our buffing pads in buckets of water. At this time, we recommend a variety of methods for cleaning foam pads after you've used them, but soaking them in buckets or washing them in either a washing machine, or under running water are not Meguiar's recommendations.

      Mike,

Is there an officially recommended method to clean the buffing pads? I've searched MOL, but only found posts that hinted about the method.

I've seen posts that have people soaking the pads in Dawn, and other methods. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I'd like to hear those cleaning recommendations as well, as of right now I have been washing my pads in hot water with dish soap to remove the polishes and compounds.

          Hey Travis,

I think I found something that may help us out.

Keep your fingers crossed that this works.

Thanks for the info, I still don't see how their recommended washing method it supposed to work, all of the polish and paint are embedded in the pad. I have been washing mine in dish soap and haven't had any problems yet. I think i may start spraying them with qd and storing them in a ziplock bag after they dry for now on.
