  • Help...

So I'm a total noob. I thought this car washing and detailing stuff was going to be a learn as you go type thing but it's turning out not to be and i'm starting to wish I got that silver one on the lot.

So this is the situation. I washed and waxed the car yesterday with meguairs gold class both for the soap and the wax. Today, I come home to find bird poop all over the car. I picked up my bottle of quick detailer and saw that it said it was good to spray on after cleaning bird poop so as to keep the waxed feel or look or whatever of the car. So i spray it on the trunk and I wipe with the Supreme Shine microfiber towel. I wipe, then all of a sudden all these tiny water spots appear. I am able to get some of these out with a claybar, some I couldn't. Why did they appear only after i wiped the trunk with the quick detail?

This actually isn't my big problem. My big problem is on the hood of the car. I don't know what the term is, but the car's black. And from the sides, the paint looks fine, looks waxed. But when you stand in front of it or from certain angles where the light hits it, you can see like brown stains or something. I'm not sure how to describe it. But i tried claybarring it and the claybar will pick up brown on the clay too. But it won't get rid of it. I tried uqd thinking that it might possibly be streaking but that didn't really seem to help. Did i ruin my paint by doing a bad wax job? And if so is there a way to fix it without spending hundreds of dollars?

    Re: Help...

after you wash and clay bar you should use a paint cleaner, start or with something mild like deep crystal step one and see it that works but it that doesnt then try swirlx, i believe that DC1 should do the job though and about the brown spots, did u let the quik detailer dry on the car or did u do a final wipe to remove the remaining product?

      Ok, lets see...

      1. Yeah, a lot of water spots seem to work that way. They look worse when wet. Dont know why that happens.

      2. As for the stains, any chance of pics? If the clay is actually picking up something brown on those areas, then something must be there. It isnt just wax streaks, they wouldnt show up brown on the clay.

It sounds like you are going to need to look into some kind of Bug and Tar Remover, and a proper paint cleaner, and really give the hood a good cleaning. What I would consider trying is:

      1. Bug and Tar Remover - apply it to the area and let it sit for a few moments. Even soak a paper towel with it, so it really stays on the stains, and let that sit for a few minutes.

      2. Wash - Wash the car, or at least the front again.

      3. Paint Cleaner - I would try some SwirlX with a smooth foam applicator pad. Work it in gently with even pressure over the entire hood, maybe a little extra on the stains. Sort of work in a 2x2 foot square at a time. You can even start on the stains, to see if it works. Hopefully it does.

      4. Wax - The area will need re-waxed of course.

        Re: Help...

Maybe i didn't wipe all the wax off and then it dried on the car? Would that be a possibility for why there's stains on the car. Cause i didn't use anything other than car soap and the wax yesterday on the hood. And i've never seen car soap do that, so it must have something to do with the wax.

I just tried using a paint cleaner (I have scratchx) and again, there was brown on my white terry cloth. And i acutally began to notice it all throughout the car. And again, the only thing i put on all areas of the car was the wax. It seemed to do the job until I would move from the back of the car back to the front and then i'd notice that the stains were still there, only not as obvious, but that might just be because there's barely any sun out....I'll inspect the car tomorrow afternoon to see if it really did the job.

In some good news, it did a perfect job of removing the water spots on the trunk.

I think the cause of the problem is that I didn't know I wasn't supposed to wax in the sun and I did. Could the brown stains be the wax staining the paint? Do i still try to remove it the same way?

            Re: Help...

I really dont think the wax will be the issue, wax should turn white.

Did you clay the car at first, or or did you buy the clay after seeing these brown streaks?

              Re: Help...

I have the same situation as you. I don't see waterspots on my windshield when it is dry, but when i wipe it with a wet towel i see every single water spot.

Your detailer did NOT cause the spots, they were there already.

Some products help you remove water spots , if you don't mind ordering online then www.autogeek.net is a good site.

                Re: Help...

I also would think the wax would be showing up white.

I think you need to start over.
                1. Wash
                2. clay car again.
                3. use a paint cleaner (scratch-x)
                4. wax 2 thin coats is best
If you are removing the brown stains when cleaning, use a lot of applicators. You do not want to transfer the stains from one area to another,

                Good luck.

                  Re: Help...

Liquid Glass Pre-Cleaner and/or a clay bar rub(McGuire's) should remove the paint. Just dont rub too hard with the bar or use it without the detail spray. Usually caused by auto car washes-the solvents they use can even break down the coating and will ruin the appliques. Also apply a wax coating afterwards for future protection

                    Re: Help...

xshki000, I feel your pain. I have a black car also. I had a white stain the size of a dinner plate on my trunk after leaving my car in an underground garage over a few nights. I have no idea what it was, (cement drip??) but it was almost as stubborn to get off as your brown stains.
I clayed the area several times and then used ColorX with a small buffer and it finally came off. As others have stated, soap or wax would not cause your problem. Good luck.
