  • #83 vx MPPC vs ScratchX

I am assuming I have listed these products from least to most aggressive. Would someone please correct them if they are wrong?

    ScratchX
    MPPC
    #83

Also, what would be the next level in aggressiveness?

    Thanks

    Hi DSG Man,

ScratchX on most finishes will be more aggressive, or let's say more effective at removing defects like swirls and scratches when applied by hand.

ScratchX is not formulated for use by machine and tend to become gummy on the surface and difficult to remove when machine applied. Some people, including myself have applied ScratchX with mixed results. The product works very well at removing defects when applied by machine, it's just sometimes it can be difficult to remove.

The other two products are in order from least to aggressive when applied by machine.

    What are you working on?

A few fine scratches on the roof of the car and some etching on the trunk. I responded to a previous thread already in place. I applied Scratchx 3 times, as well as MPPC 3 or 4 times, running the PC up to 6. All in all, I used the MPPC for probably a total of 2 minutes on a particular scratch with minimal results. There was a slight change in the scratch, and virtually none in the etching.

After several tries with ScratchX and MPPC I thought I would try the 'next' aggressive product, which I assume is #83. Your thoughts??

        Hi DSG,

Yes, #83 would be the next most aggressive product you can apply using the dual action polisher.

If you cannot affect a small area of any of these defects by hand using ScratchX and working the product in well, (elbow Grease), then it's possible the #83 applied with the dual action polisher won't affect it either.

The thing about working by hand with ScratchX is you are able to put some concentrated energy behind a very small area, (your four fingers pushing down on a foam applicator pad. If 2-3 hand applied applications of ScratchX is not affecting the area in a positive way, then spreading that pressure out over a 6.5" pad may not do it either.

It's worth a try. This might be a time when either the defects cannot be removed, or if they an be removed, it will require the use of a rotary buffer.

        As outlined in this thread,

        PC+83 not "cutting" it!

Thanks, Mike. I'll give the ScratchX a few more tries.
