i am locking on leather products, mainly hte GC line.

    1) GC Step 1 Cleaner + GC Step 2 Conditioner

    or

    2) GC Rich Leather Wipes

    or

    3)GC Rich Leather Spray

i might get setup (1), step 1 to clean thoroughly and do leather maintenance with the step 2 only. is this advisable?

or would it be better for me to maintain with setup (2)/(3) that has cleaning and conditioning properties?

    Re: leather care

Shen you want to be more thorough, I would use both the Step 1 and 2. Or could consider something like APC wit hStep 2 to condition.

I dont like the wipes. I'd at least get the spray if you want those for maintaining.

      Re: leather care

I've never cared for wipes of any sort- they don't seem to have the same "kick" of a direct application, especially on leather. Plus, it still seems like I get some residue/wooling off the wipes onto whatever I'm cleaning. I prefer microfibers and bottles. I use both the 2 step and sometimes the APC/step 2 that Murr mentioned.

How dirty are the seats to begin with?

Isn't that odd..... this wipe thing. I got a tube of quick interior detailer wipes after having used the spray, I by far prefer the wipes with a dry MF towel to follow. Saves me all the spritzing and spraying inside the car. I still use the spray when doing a full detail but the wipes are in the "emergency kit" in the trunk and work quite well.

As for the leather business, I happen to like QID for the leather in my car.... I know conditioning is recommended (but not by my cars maker, they suggest only using a pure soap foam for cleaning) but seeing the leather is quite new (my car is a 2009) I find that the leather cleans up nicely and is returned to the same feel as when I first got the car brand new, just using QID. Both the bottle and wipes claim it to be safe for leather but I honestly don't know what they (Meguires) actually means by that.... safe as in "will never do any harm" or "fine for occasional use"?!?!?

When I used to work in the horse racing industry, we only used a pure mild "soap" for cleaning and conditioning leather.... pure soap is simply animal fats saponified with lye. When done correctly, there's no lye left in the soap, just the pure tallow soap and considering the cost of racing tack we were hellbent on not doing any harm to our leather goods. Still.... upholstery leather is it's own thing and I'm not a leather expert......

          Regards

            Re: leather care

well, to begin with, my leather is black in color, hence am unable to judge how dirty it is. however, it just doesnt have the looks anymore. its pale, dry, and somewhat unsexy. since the seats are left uncleaned for 3 years, i thought i could give it some treat.

i will be opting out the wipes. now its just that is it ok to use the step 2 for maintenance.

              Re: leather care

If they have been uncared for, I would certainly at least go with the Gold Class Cleaner/Conditioner liquid for a first step, and a couple times a year. Then the wipes in between.
