  • Help Help!!!!!

Hi i am just really geting started into detailing I have been just using an old 10inc craftsman orbital buffer for my car but i am going to be purchasing the meguiars dual action polisher. I will be detailing my car which is a 97 t-bird with laser red paint. And I know that i will be trying to do some cars/trucks on the side. So my question to you guys is what would be a good couple step process to follow using the pc. Lets say that all the cars paint is in average condition few swirls lite scratches etc.. What products would work best for me. Thanks Alot Greg.

Hey 97t-bird Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

The basics should be when using a Meguiar's G-100 DA Polisher,

    Meguiar's:

    Quik Clay System
    #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish
    #80 Speed Glaze
    NXT Tech Wax

W-8006 Polishing Pads at least 2
W-9006 Finishing Pads at least 2
M-9920 Ultimate Bonnet at least 2
M-9910 Ultimate Wipe MF towel at least 3-4

The above should get you started.

    Please keep us posted!

I second what 2hotford said... If, however, that seems like a lot of steps you can simply use clay followed by #83 and then use NXT to protect your finish.

I say this because #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish is just that--a cleaner and polish in one. With darker colors you may still want to use a polish like speed glaze for a deeper, wet look, but for most jobs I think you will really like the #83. It is the most powerful cleaner you can use with the PC, so it should definately get the scratches and swirls out of your T-bird. Let us know how it goes!

        Hi Greg,

If you want to get into detailing with minimal investment, besides the G-100 and a pad kit, start out with a cleaner/wax and do one-step details.

        Here are some options...

        ColorX

        #6 Cleaner/Wax

        #66 Quick Detailer

As your detailing business grow and you feel real comfortable with doing one-step details, branch out and start using some cleaner/polishes followed by wax.

thanks mike but i got another question for you or anybody else I am thinking about getting some dacp for the first step. But i was reading a thread earlier were they were talking about it removing paint. that has me concerned because i like to detail my car alot mainly because i get bored easily. I will be using the g100 which im about to purchase. Would the dacp be to agressive to use frequently like once a month or is it a once a year thing?

Also do you or anybody else have a process (clay,cleaner,polish,wax,etc...) that you prefer if you could give me some product suggestions would greatly apreciate it.
          Greg.

You really should not be using a cleaner/polish such as #83 that often if you take good care of your paint (wash once a week with a good quality automotive shampoo and a lambs wool wash mitt with the two bucket system, rinse from top to down, dry with a waffle wave MF towel, etc.).
Mike Phillips and Mike Pennington said that it´s completely safe to use #83 with a PC and a foam pad often (2-3 times a year) on our own cars.
If you like to polish/wax monthly, you could begin doing a full detail (Clay+#83+#82+#81+NXT x 2) and then maintain your finish with a pure polish (non-abrasive) such as #7 or #81 and follow with your favorite wax.
In case you see some cobwebs reappearing after a couple of months, try first to remove them with #82 or #80, and if that doesn´t work, step up to #83.
Every Meguiars Cleaner / polish has an abrasive scale on the side of the bottle, the most aggressive you can go with a PC is DACP which is rated 6 on the scale.

There is no standard or miracle procedure for the perfect shine. It all depends on your paint, environment, experience, where you park, etc.

For the the PC user that "wants to have it all" and has a clear coat paint, #83, #82,#81 and #80 are a must.
You then need to pick up a wax. A good start is to have a synthetic wax such as NXT Tech Wax and a Carnauba product such as #26 or #16.

It would help us a lot if you could post photos of your car to help you decide what is best for your T-Bird.

here are some of the pics

Yesterday i washed with the gold class wash then i put on a coat of next spray wax. followed up with some #34 using microfiber.

              heres another

It can out fairly nice. I still have a problem with swirls since they were hid fairly well cause i wax the car frequently i was only able to get a semi decent picture of them on my rear bumper.

Also here is a pic of my rear spoiler with some kind of weird marking on it. I can not catch my nail on it when i go over it. Also it likes to come and go. I am not so sure if it is because it is getting colder out, cause in the summer it didnt seem to be as bad or as noticable.

If you have any suggestions on a good 3 step process i could use to go about for the car. Also what i could use say every month with the g-100 since i realized that i cant use a cleaner type product. It has swirls and a few minor scratches in the paint but i hide them as good as can. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Greg.

What do you currently have for paint cleaners and cleaner/polishes?

I see in your pics cobwebs and water marks.
                          This would be my approach:
                          Wash (Nxt or Gold Glass)
                          Overspray Clay
                          Wash
#83 by PC with a 8006 pad at speed 5 (You may require more than one pass).
#82 by PC with a 9006 pad at speed 4.5
NXT Tech wax x 2 (Wait 12 hours before applying a second coat)
You may apply NXT Tech Wax by hand or by PC with a 9006 pad at speed 3-4

I like to Quick detail after applying #83 (to remove fine dust from DACP).

You mentioned that you want to wax your T-bird once a month, so you can reapply a coat of NXT, or if you are looking for the ultimate wet finish, apply one coat of #81 by PC with a 9006 pad at speed 3-4 and then follow with the Tech Wax.
Always use a good quality MF towel to remove product.
