I have a couple trucks here that have been neglected. I did a pretty good detail on the dually last year which included claying, scatchX with an orbital buffer, and NXT wax. But I havent done much with it since.

The last detail on the F350 (its black) I used an orbital buffer (for the sctachx) with what seems like a terry cloth bonnet. I still had some mild swirls and I assume that was created by the bonnet. I applied the NXT by hand/foam pad. I dont see anyone talking about using those much so I assume they arent used much anymore? I also know the last time I had to make up to 8 passes in certain areas to get all the oxidation off. I got 95% of the water spots out, but a few remained here and there.

This time I want to get a little more aggressive. I have a rotary buffer as well, but not alot of experience. I am debating on buying a DA rotary but its hard when I have a very nice Milwaukee in the garage. It would also be hard to have to repaint a panel if I burned it. What would be the next step above scatchx? And would that leave swirls?

According to this chart, it seems like M205 would be the next thing to try. I am assuming using the rotary with a polishing pad would be more aggressive than the scratchx and orbital I used in the past ?

Now the Expedition is much worse. The scatchx barely touched its water spots. But its Metallic green and the spots are actually very hard to see.

Maybe I should just order a a couple different bottles, and a few different pads and give them a try?

The cars are pretty dirty now so any pictures would be pointless I think. I'll try to get some pics up soon, and will take pics along the process.

Heres some pics. Its is hard to see the spots in the expedition. Maybe cause its so dirty.

Heres the F350. You can see its a tad dirty

    Heres the swirls

Heres a seat I cleaned using Lexol. I tried Meguiars cleaner/conditioner and it didnt take out as much dirt.

Heres the other side of the bench before getting cleaned

Heres a seat from the expedition

    heres the front

Rear. kind of shows just how dirty it is

So I am about to order a bunch of stuff to make these trucks shine again. Any suggestions?

Basically, orbital's are no use for correction of swirls and suchlike.

A DA would be your next logical step.

You already have a rotary. Before you start on your or any vehicles,if you want to learn with a rotary, practise on old discarded panels. This will give you a feel for the machine and practise different things like combination of pads and compounds. Also read the section on the forum which is called mastering the rotary buffer. Take your time and try to read as much info as you can.

Which model of Milwaukee do you have?
      What pads do you have?
      What materials?

my bad. The backing plate is Milwaukee. The polisher is a Makita 9207. It runs 1500-2800 RPM. It has to be 15 years old. I have a finishing pad for it but really plan on all new pads as the old pad is 15 years old and not in good shape.

Materials? I have micro fiber towels for polishing and some NXT wax. I also have some of the ScatchX 1.0 left but not enough to do a car. I am really leaning towards the M205. Still debating on the DA. Trying to find some used panels for practice is going to be a pain. One of my concerns with the G110 is it going to be powerful enough to do what I need it to?

I should add, I used the old version of Scratchx which from what I just read, is muchless abrasive/aggresive than the new ScratchX 2.0

I am leaning towards this kit from ADS for $170

Yes,i use the old ScratchX. It's good albeit mild. The order from weak to aggressive:

          ScratchX....(uses Diminishing Abrasives)
          SwirlX...(SMAT super micro abrasive technology)
          ScratchX2.0...(SMAT)
          Ultimate Compound...(SMAT)

Going by what you have said,I think a DA would be more suited to your needs. With the right combination of pads and compounds, you'll be able to deal with swirls much more easily than you would by hand. There are loads of options available,so try reading through the Dual Action section before deciding on what you want to buy.

Someone else will be able to tell you if that is a good deal from ADS or not. Prices over here are entirely different, and I don't own a DA. Seems like a good enough deal.

do you know if the W8207 pad and M205 would be a final step before wax, or would I need to use the 9207 as well?

Judd, try posting this question in the Dual Action section. It seems nobody is picking it up here. Or open up a new thread here with the same question.

It can be the final step before waxing.
It all depends if you see any difference between using it with the polishing pad or the finishing pad.

On dark colored vehicles I've had improvements when using M205 with the Finishing Pad, I get more gloss and a crystal clear finish, but again on a white vehicle I don't think you'll have too much of a difference.

I figured I would have to see how it turns out using different pads. I just want to make sure I get enough of the right pads.

heres my order so far. I think I have everything I need. I already have some tire/wheel cleaner/dressing, microfiber towels, terry clothes, and need to get a couple new buckets and wash mitt. Somehow my washbucket got used for some gardening projects

I am getting some adapters so I can use a 3" wool pad with #4 on the windows and 3" foam pads on the roof. The truck has these raised rails on the roof, that are very hard to get into the corner where it raises. Hopefully the smaller pads will get in there
