  • #7 and #9

Sorry if this question has already been answered else where but I can't seem to find the info on this.

For a complete car detail job this is what I usually do:

    wash, dry, clay bar, wax.

I know #7 goes after the clay bar but is #7 the only thing I need to give it more shine? Can I use both #7 and #9?

#9 is for minor swirls and scratches but my car is fairly new and has no visible swirls or scratches, does that mean #9 will not do anything to enhance shine?

I started detailing my own car only a month ago so bear with my simple questions. Thanks in advance!

Also, for maximum shine, what products do I need to use after the claying? If possible, can you list me your list of products in the order that you use them?

#7 is a pure polish that is it, from what I gather it's mostley oils. #9 is a cleaner/polish. It corrects small swirls/scratches, its like an all in one product

Hiya, James. You may find these articles helpful:

As SpinsB has noted, #9 is a light cleaner/polish; applied by hand, it functions as a paint cleaner. It is also rich in polishing oils; consequently, if you were to use it in your process, there would be no need to follow-it up with #7. You process might look something like this:

      1) Wax
      2) Clay (if necessary)
      3) #9
      4) Wax (preferably two coats)

You probably would not want to use #9 every time you wax, just as you would not clay every time you wax; but you might want to use it three or four times a year or perhaps even every other month, depending on driving and environmental conditions.

On a more regular basis, you process might look like this:

      1) Wash
      2) Pure polish (#7 or Deep Crystal Polish)--optional step
      3) Wax (preferably two coats)

Also, between waxes you can easily maintain your shine with Ultimate Quik Wax. You will love how easy it is to use and will love the shine it confers. Some folks like to use it after every wash.

      Hope this helps.

      Good luck and have fun!

      Cheers,
      Al

M09 is Meguiar's most gentle cleaner/polish, that is it's a very rich blend of polishing oils and light diminishing cleaners. Anytime you want to insure you have a clean finish or as we call it on the forums, a fresh base which to apply your wax or paint sealant to, you can use this by hand or machine to gently clean and polish the paint.

M07 is a non-abrasive pure polish, it has the richest concentrations of Meguiar's Trade Secret Polishing oils and has been around since probably the 1920's and it works just as good today as it did when the Model T was coming off the assembly line.

Both products are applied to a section at a time, worked over the finish gently but thoroughly and then immediately wiped off.

After you go around the car with one of the above, (there's no real need to do both), you would then apply your choice of wax or a paint sealant.

Waxes and paint sealants need to fully dry before removing.

        See this thread,

Which products need to dry before removing?

Alright, I already own #7 but I'll just give #9 a try anyway.

Can't wait to give the baby some extra shining !

          Thanks for the tips!

What i don't understand though, is the sealant.

Some people use the polish, sealant , AND wax.

Why is sealant used instead of JUST using wax??! Or are they both similar?

Yeah, don't get mixed up with companies terminology.

For some companies, a wax has carnuba in it, and a sealant is purely synthetic. Other companies just use whatever name sounds good for advertising.

The theory is that some people think a carnuba product looks nicer than a synthetic product, so they want it on top. And of course different people have all different ideas of what looks good, or what combinations, etc.

On the other hand, with products like Nxt 2.0, topping it with another product is going to cover up or interfere with the hydrophobic polymers, which are one of the best parts of the product.
