  • New to the DA Meguiar's Polisher

Hey guys, I bought a 110 polisher last year and it's still in the box with a ton of soft buff pads (the smaller ones). I just picked up a '98 Ford contour SVT in black that needs some swirling removing and really needs buffed out bad. I'll get pics. And the headlights need sanded. Anyways, where the heck do I start to learn how to use this thing? I was going to clay bar the car first, then go from there. Any suggestions as to the order of applications? I'm very new to all this. Also, do I need to get the bigger backing plate?

I just posted a new thread on the W67DA backing plate so I'll address that part of your question and let others help on the remainder. I used the new bigger plate on my motorhome and to me the big difference was the increase in ease of use. With the original plate, I had to readjust the pad after "cleaning on the fly" and after just normal buffing. I was able to polish the entire side of a 37 ft. motorhome and never had to readjust the pad once! It also makes buffing uneven areas much easier. I feel it's well worth the few dollars to step up.

I love this site already. I've been using Meguiar's products since my first car 8 years ago and I don't use anything else.

Alright, I picked up the car today. There is a lot of swirling in the clearcoat and the bumper has some hazing as does the hood. It looks slightly oxidized. I think this could be a very worthwhile project! I'll get some good pics in the sun. I've already ordered some products laid out in one of the above links. . It looks as if the front end got more sun than the back end. The nice window tint saved the interior for the most part, but the leather could use some moisturizing and the interior just needs some detailing. Pics to come!

Also, I need a way to bring the trim back to life. It's a little faded around the window. The rubber window gaskets, I guess.
