I just got a brand new black Honda Fit today, and put a coat of wax on (my first time), much improving the shine and depth of the black. I was told a second coat might increase that effect more, but my question is- is there anything I can do after the waxing to get an even greater shine or gloss?

Yes, but it is all before you wax. The preperation before hand is key.
The easiest steps for a new car would be:
1. Wash - Good quality wash like Gold Class, quailty sponges, towels ,etc.
2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay kit
3. ColorX
4. Wax - Nxt 2.0
5. Then after future washes, you can use something like Ultimate Quick Wax to keep up the shine and protection.
Also, you can buy an extra bottle of Quick Detailer, or a bottle of Ultimate Quick Detailer to remove bird droppings, etc.
