  • UC removes wax?

I just waxed my mom's car yesterday and am not satisfied with the finish. I want to try out a new combination of products to see if I can reduce the amount of slight swirls in my paint. Since UC is one of the products, can I just use it first to strip off the NXT that I have on the car already?

In addition, I'm going to be applying the products by hand and am not sure if I'll have the arm endurance to do the whole car in a day. What is the proper procedure to do one panel at a time? Can I just do the whole 5-step process on one panel and move on to another panel the next day? Thanks.

Yes, UC will remove wax. If you just clayed, you probably dont need to do it again.

Yes, you can do a panel or two a day if you like.

Thanks for the quick response. So pretty much all I need to do tomorrow is wash, dry, proceed with a test panel, and apply UC?

Would I do the whole 5-step process for each panel?

        Is the car outside?

If it is indoors, not to dusty, just a QD wipedown of the chosen panel could be enough.

You would do what you need to do to fix up the panel. What products did you use so far?

          Re: UC removes wax?

I used Meguiar's Clay Kit, UC, and NXT 2.0. I'm thinking about throwing in SwirlX into the mix because the car is covered in swirlies, which is the main reason why I want to redo the process in the first place. I must have been applying UC incorrectly because even with multiple passes, I couldn't get rid of the swirls and fine microscratches in the paint. Btw, I applied everything by hand which could be the culprit but I made sure to put pressure on my fingers and not the fingertips. I also made sure to apply "passion" behind the pad.

Ok, so you probably dont need to clay again.

What you want to do is try the SwirlX first, and work it in. See if you get improvement there. Then if one or two applications of that does not do it, then try the UC. You also want to watch and see if you can tell whether you are improving swirls/scratches, or moving them around.

After SwirlX, a pure polish would be optional, so that will save you time. Then just re-wax.

Is there a reason why you want to use UC? If light swirls are all you have, then you may want to try SwirlX first on one of the panels before you move to a more aggressive product like UC.

Ultimate Compound is the most aggressive Meguiar's Consumer paint care product. Unless the surface on mom's ride is heavily oxidized or damaged with swirls, you shouldn't need to use it.

It's not oxidized but there are lots of swirls in the paint. Would it be best to go with M80 or something less abrasive?

Be sure the Swirls are in the paint and not just unremoved product.

I found using UC when in high humidity or after dark, results in a swirl apperance. It is actualy caused by the product not being removed because conditions are not correct.
