  • Product spots dried on a convertilbe top....help?

Last week I did a swirl remove job on a 1997 XJS Jaguar.

Red pad on a rotary with M83 ended up being the perfect combo to remove most defects. Followed by M82 with a buffing pad than RejeX to finish it off. Major improvement.

Anyway, I had tape / towels covering the top the entire time. That did not prevent some stray product from somehow spotting parts of the top. Any advice on the best product to remove the spots?

    Thanks

It's not a folding hard top if that's what you are asking.

Otherwise....not sure how to answer. Feels like every other soft top to me?

Well, I meant some type of fabric, or someting more like vinyl.

I'd pick an out of the way one, and try dabing on some APC. There is a chance some just water, or soapy water would do it, with a soft brush or minimal agitation.

          Fabric.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

The M82 I was using is really watery, I do not remember it being that way last year when I first purchased it. No matter how I spread it on or how little I put on the pad I flung a bit around with each panel. I'm guessing this caused the spots on the top.

This is probably a good time for you to pick up some dedicated products for your convertible top. Raggtopp sells a cleaner for fabric and vinyl tops. It also sells a protectant for fabric tops and a protectant for vinyl tops. You'll need to figure what your top is made of. I'm guessing fabric.

If you have a West Marine or similar boating supply store in your area, pick up a bottle of M71 Canvas Cleaner from our Marine/RV Line. Spray a little on the fabric top and lightly agitate with a microfiber or other lint free towel. Works wonders!

It's my mothers car, I was babysitting it for a few days last week. The finish of the paint started to bug me so next thing I know I'm spending the weekend buffing it out.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll try the M71 first since I'm pretty certain the local marina stocks it. I need something anyway for the boat.
