  • Average shelf life of Meg products?

It probably says on the product itself but I'd like to hear what you guys think.

Do you guys always try to use up the products within a year? 2 years?

    thanks!

I have some M16, can't remember when they stopped making it, '05? '06 or something, good to go.

I started Meguiar's some couple, three years ago and still have stuff from that era and it's still good.

Just don't expose the stuff to extreme temperatures, especially freezing. I give them a shake once in a while if I haven't used it in a while......

I think the average year for megs product is 3-5 years.. if your not finished by 5 years, I guess your not using your products :P hehe

especially my UQW seems to be empty before 6 months time...

I agree, I have always heard 3-5 years as long as the product is not exposed to freezing temps or extreme heat.

Generally speaking, 3-5 years provided the product has not been exposed to temperature extremes. A single freeze/thaw cycle will almost always ruin a liquid product, no matter how "new" it was. Leaving products in the trunk of your car can expose them to very high heat for relatively long periods of time, and that can ruin a product as well.

The above comments relate most specifically to products with a lotion like consistency - liquid waxes, dressings, etc. These products will tend to separate and not mix back together, or they become lumpy.

Generally speaking, spray products are more resistant to temperature extremes than lotion type products.

Paste waxes, provided they are well stored, have been known to last many, many years.

A quick way to check if your lotion type product is still good: shake it up thoroughly; if it comes out in a smooth, even consistency and has no strong, bad odor then it should be just fine. If, on the other hand, it is either watery or lumpy (sort of like cottage cheese) or it has a really terrible odor, it's had it. Best to throw it out and pick up some fresh product.

This question comes up so often that last summer I took some of my antique products with me to use because they're still good after all these years. The thread is in this forum, Blast From The Past

MGH-4 Hand Cleaner - Still Good After All These Years!

So like Mike Stoops posted, shake the product up and then pour some out and look for a uniform consistency.

My Gold Class liquid wax is 8+ years. It still works.

How it is stored,as mentioned earlier,is key.

The oldest Meguiars product that I have is a bottle of liquid Cleaner-Wax from the 70's. It still works fine. And it has not been "babied" in terms of storage. it was just in the very back of a cabinet in the garage.

70's... I wouldn't even use that anymore, I would keep it as a "Meguiars antique" sorta thing
