So I got my G110 two weeks ago
Last week I was short on time, any really wanted to try it out, so I put a quick coat of wax on my car. Well today I had more time, so the G110 got it's first "real" use
A family member wanted their car cleaned up, since it hasn't been polished in over a year.
Just some quick notes:
This is my first time attempting a full polish by D/A. My photographing skills with my P&S are not the best (most of the pictures didn't turn out the best). I was going to setup a tripod, but the flash actually helped out in some cases. Also, I've been waiting over 2 weeks for the Brinkmann I ordered, so the halogen work lights were the only lighting on hand.
So here goes it…
Sorry for the lack of pictures during the wash. It was about to rain (and it did), and I was in a rush.
Started with a rinse, and on to the wheels

Before

After

Front end washed (headlights need polishing)

Just as I go to grab my water magnet to start drying, it starts pouring. So I pull it in the garage, run back out and grab all the dry towels now getting wet. Went in for a few, put some dry clothes on and had something to eat, then headed back out.

All dried

On to claying… Most of the car wasn't the bad.

Only bad areas were below the trim on the sides behind the front and rear tires.

It felt like sandpaper over these areas. I had to kneed the clay about 3 times before the area would come clean (still wasn't 100% smooth). Maybe some more aggressive clay would have worked better?
Here's the area I'm talking about.

On to the paint condition…

Mostly light swirls, some deeper marks in some areas.
Here's a picture of the CC failure on the hood

Test spot taped

I started with D151 since I wanted to try a 1-step, and have the wax as a safety net just in case I don't have enough time to put NXT on.
Here's after D151 (on the right side)

Some light scratches still showing through.
I taped up another test spot, and tried out the 105/205 combo.
Before

After

I decided to go with the 105/205 combo, since it turned out much better than using D151.
Here's the hood completed with 105/205.

I stopped there for the day. I'll continue tomorrow morning.
Using 105/205 seemed aggressive considering the swirls looked light, but I went it since D151 seemed to dust right away (maybe 5-10 seconds into it), and didn't get the best results.
Using one application of 105 for about 30-45 seconds seemed to leave a nice finish. But, using 205 I didn't see much improvement. Should I continue with just 105? Maybe if the sun is out tomorrow, I can get a better look and the difference.
One last question. On the hood (first 8 inches or so) and side mirrors there is a protective film which isn't in the best shape.

I'm guessing this can't be polished since it's probably vinyl. Has any worked with this stuff before? Anything that can be done with it short of replacing it?
Thanks,
Matt
