  • Black car waxing.

Alright i have an 03 black stang. Now i need some help finding the right product and what type of cycle to do. I will be doing this all by hand and do not want to buy a PC.

I have meguiars step 3 wax and i believe i still have a bottle of step 1.
My major problem with the car is in the sun it just looks terrible. Like i can see every scratch in the car. My other main problem is the swirls all over the car. I need something that i can use on the entire car for deswirling not just spots.

Any help on products and the steps i should do would be greatly appreciated!!!

My last question is liquid clay better than claybars?

You need to take a good look through both of these threads:

    List O' Links 2.0

    Internet Resources for Detailing Newbs

    Also, watch these videos:

How to wash your car show car style

    How to clay bar

And to answer your last question, no, liquid clay bars are not as effective as actual clay bars. Hope this helps!

      Any chance of pics?

In general, you would do this:

      1. Wash as shown above

      2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay kit

      3. Clean - Do a test spot/panel with SwirlX, worked in with some passion. Check your results. If two applications wont do it, then step up to Ultimate Compound. That is the best you will do by hand. Do the test panel with one or two applications, worked in with some passion, and check results. You may need to follow up the UC with an application of SwirlX.

      4. Wax - Nxt 2.0, or other favorite wax

      5. Wax - 2 thin coats are best

      6. Maintain - You can use Ultimate Quick Wax after future washes.

Also since it's BLACK it'll be high maintnace after you detail her. Be wary on what you use for maintaining your finish. Always use clean MF towels and pads. Use the two bucket method with a clean spong when washing. Akimel's signiture says it best...

here is 2 things i used on my car and i would never change First i used to use black box from turtle wax which was good but didn't leave a deep finish that i was looking for. So now i use no7 and then 2 coats of no 26. Well what a deep and shiny finish i will never change T"'

            Re: Black car waxing.

Babage, I'm afraid there simply is no easy way for you to remove the swirls and scratches in your paint finish: to remove them you will need to remove a micro-thin layer of clearcoat and to do that you will need to polish the paint with an abrasive cleaner-polish, such as SwirlX, or a compound, such as Ultimate Compound (see: What it means to remove a scratch out of anything...). Moreover, hand polishing of an entire vehicle is hard and long work and not nearly as effective as machine polishing. If you are really desirous of removing your swirls, then you might want to consider investing in a G110 dual action polisher, along with appropriate pads. If such an investment is not possible at the moment, then follow Murr1525's instructions above. And always remember to do a TEST SPOT first before polishing the entire car.

            Good luck!

            Cheers,
            Al

Now mur when u say 2 thin coats. Are you talking about with the wax above? For the last wax use that one twice?

I'll probably go out and buy some stuff tonight and test. I'll try to get some pictures up of the swirls tonight.

              Sudz nice car!

also polishing sounds a little dangerous. Do you do that before waxing?

and to my post above this i forgot to ask how long u wait for the wax to dry before u apply a second coat or can u just start right away.

                Thanks!

Polish is what 'makes it shine'. Wax protects.

Yes, 2 thin coats of the Nxt.

What most people call polishing would be the Cleaning step listed above. As long as yo udo your test spot, and check results, nothing can really go wrong by hand.

It is nice to wait 15 minutes if possible. But nothing will be ruined if you have to start the second coat right away.

So would swirlx be the same thing as polishing? I'm appreciating all the help. I just didn't realize how complex waxing can get until i started looking into how to enhance an aging cars body.

                        Re: Black car waxing.

Waxing was a lot easier when Meguiar's was making a 3 Step System, with 1 -2 - 3 labelled on the bottles that even fools could understand.

Yeah, SwirlX is a polish. A very good one too. The result of SwirlX on a black car is excellent.

For that car, you'll probably need to start with something like Ultimate Compound. SwirlX will get some of the defects out, but you might as well use the product needed the first time.

It can always be simplified, but the removal of defects can make you have to do more steps, put in more effort.
