  • Packing a Travel Bag(Going to college)...

What detailing products would you pack with you to go on a long road trip or away to college. It ***** that I don't have access to a hose otherwise I would wash my car right at my dorm, so I have to settle for a car wash. I plan on keeping the supplies in an old shopping basket unless anyone has any better ideas for a caddy? How do the fleixable tool bags work?

Anyways here is what I was thinking:

    Quick Detailers:
    1 16 oz Quik Detailer
1 22 oz Ultimate Quik Detailer
1 16 oz Quik Wheel Detailer

    Waxes:
1 15.2 oz Ultimate Quik Wax
    1 18 oz NXT 2.0

    Compounds/Polishes:
    1 16 oz Ultimate Compound

    Window Cleaner:
    1 can Sprayway

    Interior Cleaners:
1 16 oz Quik Interior Cleaner

    Dressings:
1 12 oz Hot Shine Tire Gel
1 can of Turtle Wax Wet n' Black for wheel wells

    Applicators:
    1 Tire Dressing Applicator
    3 Foam Applicator Pads

    Towels:
    6 Misc Good MF's
    1 Drying MF

    Anything else?

That looks good. What kind of car wash are you settling for though? If it's a drive in one where you can do it yourself, then bring some Gold Class or NXT car wash too and bring that to the car wash. If I were you, I'd avoid any machine wash at all costs. It should at least be a touchless wash.

I'd also bring SwirlX. The reason why is so that you have a standard paint cleaner. That way, you can use Ultimate Compound for heavy and medium scratches and you can use SwirlX for everything else.

Might as well through that in there. I do have access to a touchless wash I might through some wheel cleaner in there as wheel, although regular car wash cleans my painted steel wheels just fine.

I load up everything I have and stash it in my closet, but I have an apartment at school luckily. Do you not think you will have enough room in the closet or under the bed to bring everything you have?

I can pack up all my go-to products in my Meguiars duffel that I got from ADS a few years ago. UC, 2 each Polishing and Finishing pads, G100, NXT2.0, M26, and a few microfibers. If I try really hard I can get a bottle on M7 and M9 in there too.

For my college travel bag, I went with notebooks, pens, pencils, a graphing calculator, and my laptop. That's just me though.

Try using Mark Kleis' new rinseless washing system when you can, instead of going to the car wash. You'll just have to order yourself a gallon of Last Touch, though.

Me too! Mine carries 2 polishing, 2 finishing, 1 cutting, sample of M105, sample of M205, sample of M80, 3 supreme shines, a few applicators, painter's tape, 3 bars of clay and a bottle of distilled water. It all fits in there with no problems.

I hang all my spray bottles from the edge of my wash bucket, my tire brushes, plush mitt, NXT 2.0, NXT tire shine and GC shampoo go in it. I carry my G110 in it's case. I have a re-usable Toyota bag from the 2009 NYC Car Expo that I carry all my additional Supreme Shine and Viking MF's and a Water Magnet.

Oh come on, I was planning on typing my papers up using my G110 and NXT 2.0 on car hoods and taking notes with beads of Ultimate Compound. You just had to ruin the fun.

I think your list looks pretty good. I can't imagine they will have any power for you to use a DA or something, so I don't think you would need any of those type items (my apartment underground garage didn't have any power outlets to use).

If you are driving, I would imagine that you might make it home every now and then to do anything that needs major attention. I think you will be fine with a coin-op, just bring your own buckets and hand wash it yourself. Then dry it there or drive it back quick and dry it in the garage.

No, no, no. You shouldn't be thinking about car detailing while you're in college.

No, seriously, you should be partying and drinking, and cramming in material the night before the exam.

Seriously. What are you thinking dude?

If you insist on detailing your car at the dorm, then you may want to consider buying more Microfiber towels. A trip to the laundry room at the dorm is not as easy as it sounds.

I like your list. But I would also check out Mark's video on the wasless system. It would be better for your paint then the touch less system by school
