  • Newb Help for PC Products (DA or Rotary)

Hey guys, I recently bought a ton of products, as you guys may have even seen in my posts. But basically for NOW...i'm doing everything by HAND which is a pain and leaves swirls. Now i've already spent like 200$ on detailing products and i'm willing to spend more to keep my baby looking clean

Can someone please suggest me some products and answer questions..
    1) Shall I purchase a DA Polisher or Rotary Buffer? I see and read that they are both different so do i need both?
    2) I'm a fairly new detailer so I don't need anything crazy so I'm wondering if i get either one of the products, what do I need to buy along with the PC or w/e such as pads? or what
    3) Does an electrical outlet need to be available while using this?
    4) In the end..what do I need to buy, thanks guys

Products I'll be using are basic stuff such as 3 step kit..wax..clay..etc.

1.) If you do not have any training or experience with buffers, start with a DA.
2.) With virtually no information from you this is essentially impossible to answer. There are literally HUNDREDS of potential products and pads to recommend. We need to know what you intend to do with them.
3.) Yes, it uses a normal electrical outlet.
      4.) See #2

Bottom line, we need more info: What are you working on? Pictures? Experience? Desired results?

Once we get that from you we can help you more.

Also, for future reference, try limiting your posts to 1 or 2 specific questions in the future- very vague or multiple questions posts like these are often over looked because they are too much work to answer.

Since you're new to this, by all means go for the G110 and hold off on the rotary. If your car is in reasonably good shape and you just want to get rid of swirls and other "routine" defects, the G110 is far easier to learn, far safer to use (especially for a novice), generally quite a bit less expensive, but still highly effective.

You would want the machine itself plus a backing plate - if you go with the Meguiar's G110 a backing plate is supplied, if you opt for a Porter Cable just double check with the seller if you need a separate backing plate as some are sold with and others without. You will then need at least two polishing pads such as Meguiar's W8207 Soft Buff 2.0 or similar, and at least one finishing pad such as Meguiar's W9207 Soft Buff 2.0 or similar. If you plan on applying a pure polish and a wax, or using more than one wax, then a second finishing pad is in order.

Make sure to read through several threads in The Dual Action Polisher section of MOL while waiting for it to arrive. You'll learn about the fundamentals of using the tool, and pick up several tips along the way. By all means, feel free to ask as many questions as you need - we're here to help make this as easy a learning process as possible.

Working by hand shouldn't be leaving swirls. What were you using? What was your process or method....?

Working by hand is hard work.If it's a full car...painfull!....A DA will certainley help you out.

The three most common models i read here is the G110,the PC and the flex. Here's a link showing various poular models:

The Meguiar's G110 is a stronger version of the PC7424. Both are "DA" (Dual-action) buffers.

              You do not need both.
