I posted this in another spot & did not get a response so possibly I might get some input here ?

I just came in & for the last 3hrs I have been trying to remove some hair line scratches from the 2500 & 3000 I used to sand the molded in rear fender on the frame Im working on and after starting with a 4" orange pad & then went to a yellow I still have some scratches I cant get out, I probably went over a couple scratches 5 or 6 times & cant get them to pull out, If anybody can Please tell me what I need to do to remove these fine scratches I would greatly appreciate the help, Last night the 105 seemed to pull out the couple scratches that I had ontop of the fender but today when I wet sanded the sides to finish buffing I have ended up with the same scratches I normally have, I tried extra pressure while buffing, speed on Porter is on 5, moving slowly yet they just wont disappear, The 105 says it will pull 1500 acratches with a rotary so I cannot understand why I cant pull the ones I have with multiple buffings ? HELP !!

First of all, not to sound rude or harsh in any way. However, you really should not have wet sanded unless you were 100% positive you could take the sanding marks out.

Since that isnt the case lets see. Are you working by a DA? How much polishing experience do you have? Im sure more experienced people can chim in and help you out much better than I but knowing the answers to these can help us help you more.

Pulling out 1500 sanding marks with a rotary and and removing 3000 with a DA are two different things.

If it is even possible, you will need to work a very small area, possibly using the Soft Buff 2.0 Cutting pad

A person here has had success removing 2500 grit wetsanding marks with M105 by hand alone.

Do you have a picture of the sanding marks? What kind of machine are you using? I am assuing you are using the Adam's pads?

Good point, you hand/arm can often apply more power than the DA for severe defects.

This is a Custom Show bike I just finished painting in House of Kolor Kandy apple red with airbrush work the was covered in HOK UFC35 the sanded with 800 & then flowcoated with 3 more coats & color sanded with 200 & 2500, Then I alwas buff with a porter cable 7424 with the edge pads, The finish shine like glass but its tose last few hair scratches that are random that I cant get ou, I thought possibly there might be some custom painter who might of ran into this problem, Below is a shot of tank before clear @

I just put a pic up of tank but it says it has to be approved, These sratches are so fine I dont think they would show up in a pic but they are enough to make me nuts, I use all House of Kolor paints, & a porter cable 7424 with edge pads 4 & 6" only.

What brand of sand paper did you use? Some have a pretty wide range of "grit particles" that average out to the labeled grit - that is, for a 2000 grit paper you've got large and small abrasive particles essentially glued to the paper carrier, and they average out to 2000 grit. The problem is the larger abrasive particles leave behind what are called tracers - deep(er) scratches that show up after removing all the finer marks instilled by the paper. But even with the finest papers on the market (Meguiar's Unigrit anyone??) you can still pick up extra material/dirt from the water you're using if your work area isn't being flushed thoroughly, etc. All it takes is a tiny bit of something to get trapped and you'll never see it. Until you pull out the primary sanding marks, and then those dang tracers show up.

So while some have had success removing very fine sanding marks with a D/A, what you are probably facing is something much coarser than the average grit of the sand paper you used, and that has left marks that are proving too much for the D/A to handle.

I think your right, I used 2500 Indasa Rynowet & also some Mirka 2500, I have some 3000 unigrit that I had gone over some spots using fresh clean water with a little dish washing liquid in it but still got the tracers, The tank seemed like there were hardly any for some reason but the frame & rear fender is were I am having my problems, Anything you can recommend that would be gentle enough to pull these tracers & not have to worry about getting into any other problems ?

You may want to go over the spots to remove the tracers using the unigrit or 3M wetordry 2500 paper.
