Won't hurt to try, I use M105 by hand on my wheels.

I have several areas that the clear coat is chipping off....

May strip them and re clear or polish and let it be.....

Since some of the clear coat on your wheels is starting to fail, you find yourself with two very different surfaces to deal with.

In original condition the clear coat was pretty stout stuff, and regular cleaning with our Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner would have gotten rid of brake dust, etc. Further cleaning and enhancement could have been done with any paint cleaner, including SwirlX, ColorX, M80, etc and any wax such as DC Carnauba, NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0, etc.

While you can still use SwirlX, etc on them even if you believe some of the clear coat is missing, you should be very careful about using Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner at this point. Any exposed aluminum will be prone to staining, and that staining can even get under the edge of the remaining clear.

Refinishing the wheels is always a possibility, but you need to keep a few things in mind:
          • Strip the clear and you're left with bare aluminum, most likely pretty well stained from the paint stripper depending on which stripper you used
          • You'll need to decide if you want to shoot new clear over the wheels or keep them bare
          • Shooting new clear means having to polish the wheels first, but once a fresh clear coat is on your upkeep will be back to "as new", meaning all the products mentioned above
          • Keeping the wheels bare also means having to polish them after stripping, but now upkeep is a lot more work as this will be a very delicate finish, prone to scratching, staining, dulling, ect.
          • If the wheels in question are those shown on the truck in your avatar and you want to refinish them, clear them. Seriously.
