    Hello,

There are several different options when it comes to removing an old coat of wax.

First would be to wash your entire car using Dawn Soap.

Another option is simply using a light cleaning polish.

Claying your paint surface will also remove anything wax on it as well.

In addition to what Megafast said, you can get certain car washes that are made to safely strip wax, that way you don't have to use Dawn on your car. While Dawn isn't going to hurt too much if it is used a few times in your cars life (that's in the case that your paint is already in good condition) it isn't the greatest to use on your paint.

Chemical Guy's Citrus Wash and Clear is a wash that will remove all previously existing wax and works pretty darn well. If you clay after that and then follow with a mild cleaner polish, you will definitely have a wax-free surface that is ready for your LSP of choice.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

      I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.

Polishing will take it off. Dawn can cause damage so stay away from it. IPA should take it off as well.

More importantly, why do you feel the need to remove it at all?

Anthony, have you clayed your car recently? If not, then that is definitely something you should do. Not only will claying remove any bonded contaminants, but it will give you the bare paint surface that you are looking for. Good luck! Let us know how you like the NXT/M26 combo.

I would go with claying also.

I like to wash with GC, clay, and then do an IPA wipedown to get rid of anything before doing correction.

IPA = Isopropyl Alcohol aka Rubbing Alcohol?

                      How about using SwirlX?

SwirlX is supposed to replace DC-1 and DC-1 is supposed to clean the paint as well as removing the wax.

I would go for the wash, claying. Then apply the wax combo you want.

Don't think I need the clay this time. My car surfaces are still glass-like smooth. I will clay probably before winter.

For now, I will just use SwirlX and then apply pure wax, either Synthetic Sealant or Yellow Wax.

I found your thread reviewing Wash and Clear, curious if I'm looking for the correct product.
On their web site they offer:

                            Citrus Wash & Gloss
Citrus Wash Daily - which says "Citrus Wash and Clear" on the bottle. Problem is, in the description they say: "100% safe for all waxes and sealed surfaces." That doesn't sound like the correct product to strip wax off.

Are you using the Wash & Gloss??

Re: how to remove previous wax?

I wash twice-weekly with Dawn and I have won six of the last seven Meguiar's Car Detailing Tournament tournaments with my car. Enough with the "Dawn hurts your paint" myth. I'm really sick of hearing that.

Btw, I use NXT as my routine wash. When I want to strip wax, I use Dawn. I don't know who ever came up with the idea that Dawn was hurting paint...
Maybe it's that "lurking variable"--that people who use Dawn in their normal washes are also the same people who use 250-grit sandpaper sponges, no grit guards, and bath towels to dry their paint? Helloooooo...Dawn never did a harmful thing. It was the poor techniques that did the damage.

Enough with the "Oh look at how Dawn hurts the paint" myth, already.
