Hello all, I decided today was the day to detail my Wife's 2001 Chevy Cavalier engine bay. Armed with some degreaser and knowledge from MOL I headed out to the driveway.
The dreaded "before" shot. I know, I know... It's been SERIOUSLY neglected. This is the first time the engine has been really cleaned top to bottom.

The block was literally caked with oil, grease, and dirt. The pic didn't do it justice. It was really bad!!!

Here's the cleaners I used. It was so bad I decided to degrease it twice. First I covered the alternator and distributor cap with some tin foil. I then proceeded to spray the Gunk Orange Engine Shine Degreaser over the whole engine bay. It seemed to work great but the orange smell really attracted the bees! Watch out and be prepared to run if you use this stuff.
After rinsing, I applied some Purple Power Degreaser in the same manner. I think this product was actually better than the Gunk but hard to tell since it was only dissolving the leftovers. I took a stiff bristle brush to get to the really bad areas. Gave it a final rinse and dried everything with my electric leaf blower.

And now the big moment... All I had at the time was Meguiar's Hot Shine so I sprayed it on liberally. Later I wiped the plastic down and shot is with some Natural Shine.
I promise I won't let it go another 8 years before cleaning it again.
