  • Question about stains on boat seats?

My dad owns a boat repair business and has gotten me a few boat detail jobs on the side. Two of the boats have white seats which are dirty but also have what somebody called sunburned stains, I have never seen it before. I tried #39 heavy duty vinyl cleaner which cleaned the dirt but not the sunburn stains. I also tried some all purpose cleaner diluted 4:1 with no luck. The stains are brownish/yellow and are only on the tops of the seats. Any ideas?

Try this stuff, I know it's for leather, but it did an incredible job on my sister in laws seats (these are half & half pics of the seats)

Let me be the first one to tell you that there is really not much that can be done with vinyl boat upholstery once the factory applied protective coating has been weathered away. This usually happen exactly as you have discribed, at the top of the seats. You basically begin to see this condition after a boat is about 5 to 7 years old. Especially, if the boat is left uncovered and exposed for long periods of time to the UV rays of the sun.

Sorry Bud, but I have to agree with Frank. From your description, the marks may be permanent.

        Sorry!

I agree with them also. You could give it a try, but we too had those marks on our boats seats and had to get them recovered.
