More and more car now, are coming out with plastic headlights, and I have one of them (2009 Scion xB). In my last car, I also have plastic headlights, the OUTSIDE coating (I do not know what it is called), is coming off or chipping off. Is there any product by Meguiars to help to maintain these plastic headlights? Lately, I been using LAST TOUCH and UQD to clean and add a little protectiong under harsh condition. Any suggestions?

Re: Clear Plastic headlights
For me, I use 2500 grit sandpaper, M105, and then PlastX. The risk of wetsanding clear plastic is almost non-existent.
I find PlastX alone insufficient to remove chipping and scratches.
Also, applying waxes may temporarily restore gloss to the headlight plastic lenses. However, over time, the wax will deteriorate, causing the lenses to turn yellow. If you want your headlights to repel water, use rainX instead. It is advertised for use on headlights.

Re: Clear Plastic headlights
Hey,
For your 2009 vehicle, there should be no need to wet sand brand new headlights. However, if the protective coating is already beginning to peel off, and IMO, it should not be doing that on a new vehicle, I would go to your dealer and have the lights replaced under warranty.
Otherwise, to maintain new lights, I would suggest using Meguiar's M18 Clear Plastic Detailer. You could use PlastX if you want to remove light marring, but for maintenance, use M18.
Couple things to keep in mind, people should not be wet sanding newer headlights as you will remove the protective coating off of them, thereby inviting UV yellowing even sooner. If there is no choice, as the lights are in poor condition and in need of replacing, then wet sanding is an option. However, using PlastX with the DA with a finishing pad or polishing pad will restore most headlights very well. I have done this for years and find little need to wet sand unless necessary.

Re: Clear Plastic headlights
I say you need some Plastx and you can get the lens kit cuz the little pad to drill attachment is sweetBeing so new all you should really need is the Plastx to keep it looking good. Another thing (which I hate to mention on here) is Klasse AIO which I only use on lights and chrome but it can be used on EVERYTHING lol
M105 Ive used once on lights to get out some swirls which worked well also.
However, back on your car being new Plastx should do the job perfect
