  • debadge issue

    hey guys,

new member here, ive been using meguiars products on all of my previous cars, and now this one.

i have a 2004 dodge neon srt-4. the car was in a front end accident before i bought it. the car was then recieved a whole new paint job. the did a decent job, and i bought it at a good price, so why not right?

anyway i decided to debadge the trunk to give it a cleaner look. the issue is this.

it looks a little worse then the pictures can give it credit for. im assuming its either sun damage or just a difference in color because maybe it wasnt sprayed again during the 2nd paint job?

my question is can i use anything to get this off? i have used meguiars clay kit, then used cleaner, polish, and carranuba wax the whole car as well as that area specifically to get it off. so far no dice. a friend of mine told me to try rubbing alcohol then wax 3x. no dice there either. any products i could use to try to get this off? or does the trunk need to be resprayed to eliminate the fading? thank you. joe.

    Re: debadge issue

It looks as if the issue may be uneven fading of the paint, rather than a residue that could be removed.

Is there a clearcoat? (To test, use anything with abrasive like cleaner wax or polish and see if color transfers when you rub the paint).

      Re: debadge issue

Yea I agree with Mark. It's not the adhesive residue.
It might be a different color paint or sun damage.
      You might have to re-paint.
The un-exposed paint should change over time.
But I don't think you can work that out.

        Re: debadge issue

        I've got a solution:

Tape the surrounded area, spray UQW on the letter and enjoy the hydrophobic effect...

didnt read any responses yet, about to and saw a question about clearcoat.

yes there definitely is a layer of clearcoat, infact in one area its peeling SLIGHTLY around the doorhandle. lovely paint job right? lol o well i didnt pay for it.

thanks to every1 who has responded!

Well, one is a "wax:, the other is a gloss enhancer.

But both have the desired hydrophobic properties you should be after.

                Re: debadge issue

The Nxt Speed Detailer does not have the hydrophobic polymers.

The Ultimate Quick Detailer has the polymers, and would be similar to the Nxt Speed Detailer.

Of course, the Quick Detailer is the Consumer Line product meant for claying.

                  Re: debadge issue

Thanks for the correction. I realized that the NXT speed detailer has some sort of Synthetic Polymer, but never really noticed that this was different from the hydrophobic polymer.

                    Re: debadge issue

Yes, the Nxt definately leaves a slicker finish, but also why is isnt best for claying. Kind of like Last Touch 1:1.

                      Re: debadge issue

I didn't notice the DODGE lettering right away....It's like one of those puzzle pictures.

It doesn't look like anything to do with adhesive residue.

The new paint that was sprayed(if done correctly)should be like the original spec. The problem with cars that are not new is the division between sharp lines or panels, especially on upper surfaces. The old paint is slightly faded/weathered and the new paint is correct.

That looks quite intricate to have been masked, sprayed around without leaving any edging. When you removed the logo, where there any clear coat edges?

From what I can see in the pic,I don't think there is anything you can do.No harm in trying though. If the only solution is to respray,I would put the logo back on.
