  • MF towels - which is which and when to use?

    Hi all

I have a number of Megs Microfibre towels (but not enough) and would like to know:

    1. How to tell one from another?

I have the red and yellow Waterless MF towels and then another yellow one - Supreme Shine? One of the yellow towels has bright yellow edging, the other has same colour edging (which is which?). Then I have a couple of blue MF towels, which I believe are called Polish towels. (I also have a few MF towels for the windscreen, but haven't found the perfect one yet.)

    2. When to use each type?

For example - Use the blue polish towel to apply UQD and use the yellow Supreme Shine for final wipe off and to polish to a shine (I don't know, just giving an example of the info I'm after).

If there is a simple system already posted on here I would appreciate the link.

    Thanks in advance!

    Cheers

Re: MF towels - which is which and when to use?

I believe the supreme shine with the yellow edging is just an older version of the supreme shine, and the one without it is just a newer version. I am not familiar with the red and yellow waterless MF towels as we don't have that here in the US. I don't think Meguiar's has a blue MF. Right now they produce the Ultimate Wipe and the Supreme Shine as their only microfibers (not including drying towels)

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
    Remove swirls my friends.

I like to use short napped towels for glass and product removal. They have more grab to them. The more plush towels i use for QDing and drying.

For something like UQD i'd use just a Supreme Shine, while with UQW i'd use an Ultimate Wipe. It's what seems to work best for me anyways.

I think i've seen the blue Megs mfs at Bass Pro before. They're the marine version if i remember correctly.

Ultimate Wipe is great for removing polish and wax. Great product...

Would love to try it, but not in Australia.

The blue towels are definitely Meguiars and on the Megs Australia website - http://www.meguiars.com.au/product_2...0Cloths&show=4

Waterless - the red is for when using the Waterless QD, and the yellow for final wipeover, though both seem very similar apart from the colour - http://www.meguiars.com.au/waterless.htm

This info sounds okay to use as a rule -

Thats funny, Surpreme Shine MF's seem to work great for me when applying UQW. Perhaps I will try to see if Ultimate Wipes step it up a notch.

I only know of the supreme shines--yellow,ultimate wipe--white and possibly something from the marine line.(Water magnet aswell, albeit for drying).

I can only get supreme shines and water magnets here.

There is a large microfibre wipe which has a sponge inside(same material as SS).I didn't even know about that one.

separate them by color/type, really not that difficult

I think that's the point the OP is trying to make - he has a few MF towels that are the same colour and he's not sure which towel is which type.

Could you use a permanent fabric marker and put a small initial in the corner, say UW for Ultimate Wipe, SS for Supreme Shine, etc?

Great minds think alike! But I was wanting to sort which is which and when to use each first. I think that given the different products in different countries I will contact Megs Australia to get the info.

                      Thanks all!

I am not sure if you are asking how to sort based on purpose:

Like, are long nap MF's better for removing or breaking the haze; are short naps better for spreading products around or polishing? Or are certain m-f properties better for glass. When do I want "cut" loops, and when to I want non-cut loops? I have not a clue either.

I made all the above up, but if I knew how to pick a MF based on what I wanted to do, I would be able to grab the one I needed and not have to buy so many.
Success is never final, failure is never fatal. It's courage that counts.

YES! That would answer question no. 2!

Now, to have some advice on such would be great. We would no longer have to guess which MF to use when ... though we would still be buying multiple of each ... probably something akin to an addiction. Just as it with buying the different Meg products.

Re: question no. 1 - So far, I have worked out that since we have different MF towels here in Australia, I need to check this with fellow Australians. But if all the varieties you guys talk about were available here, I would have to buy shares in the company that sells them!!!

                          Cheers
