  • DA Backing Plate

When I got my G110 it came with a Backing plate and Soft Buff 1.0 Pads. I finally want to get some 2.0 Pads, but do I have to get the new Backing Plate for the 7" Pads? Or can I use the smaller/old one that I already have?

The W67 plate (or the one that came with your G110) will work with the Soft Buff 2.0 pads. However, you will lose some of the cut.

    Here's why:

The difference between using a small backing plate and a large plate is pretty big. An easy way to tell is to try both plates on a dark colored, single stage paint surface. You can actually see that the smaller backing plate is not supporting the entire pad because the area of used paint in the pad is directly proportionate to the size of the plate.

I know that was a bit wordy, so here are some pics to help explain it:

You can see that the entire pad is not being used.

And that the packing plate is the same size as the area with the most support.

Okay, thanks for the quick response, that is what I thought would happen.

If I recall, the W67DA pads is only 4.75" in diameter. That is quite a bit smaller than the 2.0 foam pads.

However, the W67DA backing plate claims to work with 7" pads...

For around $20, you can get a generic backing plate that will work on the 2.0 pads. I find no difference between a generic plate and the branded ones. They may all have been made by the same manufacturer in China.

Yup I saw that. it's a killer deal, considering a 2.0 pad costs $12 each separately.

Too bad their 3.75" backing plate has no such deal!!
